Vexmen 80Y 80N and 81M Reveal

Here are the Vexmen reveals. Sorry it’s not as fancy as we would like we’re all still scrambling to get ready for worlds.

Middle School Robots:

Team 80Y Cypher
Qualification path: PA States Middle School Design Award Winner

This robot has a double reverse 4 bar lift and an X holonomic base. But what is special about it is what they termed “Project X” and worked on since last summer. It is a linkage that grabs the syrise and flips it 360 over the motion of the arm.

You can see it in action via their innovate award video. Here’s Project X in action.

Team 80N Nightcrawler
Qualification path: PA States Middle School Excellence Award Winner

Nightcrawler is back with a new crew and they are ready to play. Having come up through the ranks in FLL, the Nightcrawler team is a top notch team for their first year in Vex. They won the Excellence Award at PA States and have been practicing ever since. Here they come!

Team 81M Mystique
Qualification path: PA States High School Design Award Winner, PA Programming Skills Winner (24 points)

Mystique is no stranger to World Championships and is coming back for more. They concentrated on winning programming skills in PA with a 5 skyrise high stack built from a pantograph scissor based sweeping arm/claw robot. But then they decided to go for it and rebuild for worlds! It goes higher, lifts faster with 36 tooth linear track lift, and stays straighter than the previous design.

Here’s a sneak peek at the new scissor design. Inspired by 80Y’s Project X tight tolerances, there are no screw heads to collide here!

And here’s the bomb of a mess they left behind in the basement…
. So how much of a reveal is it now?)Sorry there was no Spanish translation

I’d be interested to see how 80N’s robot works. Do you have any pictures or videos of the robot?

80N Nightcrawler highlights:

I forgot to add they were the PA Middle School Programming Skills champions.

Primarily a cube side starter 80N sports a back flap scorer for cube number 1 before going for more.

The lift is a double reverse 4 bar with a Skyrise claw and passive cube grabber

Nice use of the new high strength shafts for keeping the DR4B in line

It’s solidly built and they have a great design notebook (that binder on the table). These guys are looking forward to seeing everyone else at worlds.](Team 80N Nightcrawler stabilization using HS bars | Vexmen s… | Flickr)

Thanks for the photos. Definitely a solid robot, especially for a first year team!

I had a feeling that something was missing from the robot in the team photo, so that’s why I asked.

Oh yeah, they were in the middle of an arm rebuild at the time.
