VEXnet 2.0 Trade-In Program Announced

VEX Robotics is announcing a trade-in program aimed at assisting existing VEXnet USB Adapter Key users who wish to upgrade to the new VEXnet Key 2.0.

Customers will receive $30 off of a new VEXnet Key 2.0 for each original (black) VEXnet USB Adapter Key returned to us. We will accept any number of original VEXnet Keys. Returned Keys with more than minimal damage will not be considered valid trade-ins.

Example: (10) original VEXnet USB Adapter Keys are returned and accepted. Customer will be e-mailed a coupon code allowing them to purchase (10) VEXnet 2.0 Keys at $9.99 each. Normal shipping charges will apply based on customer’s selected shipping method.

The new VEXnet Key 2.0 is designed to be a functionally identical replacement to the current VEXnet USB Adapter Key. The new Key utilizes the new VEXnet 2.0 communication protocol. This consists of a custom 2.4 GHz data radio instead of the 802.11b/g wireless link used in the original VEXnet Key.

For more information on VEXnet 2.0, see here.

Return Instructions

  1. Fill out the VEXnet 2.0 Trade-In Program form indicating how many original VEXnet Keys you are returning.
  2. Submit the form online and print out the e-mail confirmation to include with your returns (1 form per package).

Customers are responsible for shipping charges and we recommend shipping via a trackable carrier (UPS, FedEx, USPS with Delivery Confirmation, etc.) to ensure your package arrives.

Keys received without the Trade-In Program form confirmation may be discarded.

Package your units appropriately and send them to:

VEX Robotics, Inc.
VEXnet 2.0 Trade-In Program
1519 Interstate 30 West
Greenville, TX 75402

Once your units have been received and the contents verified, the appropriate coupon code will be e-mailed to you. You may use this coupon code for $30 off of the purchase price, lowering the price of the VEXnet Key 2.0 to $9.99 each.

Coupon codes are one-time use, good only for a discount off the purchase of the VEXnet Key 2.0 (P/N: 276-3245). Coupon codes will be valid until 12/31/2015. UPDATE: The program has been extended, and will run until 12/31/2014.

When you mean ‘key’ you mean a set of keys right?

IE If I turn in a set of old keys I will get $30 off a set of new keys or are we talking about individual keys?

Already answered

We don’t have many old ones, but I’m sure this will be a huge help for teams with tons of old or faulty keys! Will a trade in program be available at Worlds so teams don’t have to ship them?

Also, any idea when wireless debug/download will be available for 2.0?

I saw that but I still wasn’t sure if he still meant 10 sets or not.

A set of keys cost $40 each so $30 off doesn’t make sense for a single key.

ONE KEY is $40.

You turn in one of your VEXnet 1.0 keys for a VEXnet 2.0 key, you pay $9.99 to get the upgraded key.

Got it, that was my problem

Sorry for the confusion.

What if we have already bought all the 2.0 keys we require…can we use the cup on to purchase other items from the store?

No you may not.

Turn in 1.0 key and get a coupon for a future purchase of a 2.0 key. No exceptions. No substitutions.

There will always be timing issues with any program like this. If we accommodate every little request like the one above, then the program will become unworkable and then these programs will just not be offered in the future. None of us want that.

Seems like a sweet deal!

Just checking - for international teams going over for World, can we do the returning of old keys and collection of the coupons over at the competition venue?

This will reduce a lot of hassle and save on delivery charges for us.

I’m adding this offer to my (lengthy) list of “reasons VEX is awesome”.

Over the years VEX has handled upgrades and enhancements to the competition and control system with an outstanding concern for their customers.

Thank you for continuing this trend. You didn’t have to do this, but it is very much appreciated. It makes it easy for me to continue recommending VEX and VRC to schools interested in getting involved in robotics.

If I turn in my old keys before the deadline, will the discount ever expire? I teach robotics in a public school, and I can’t make new purchases until the Fall. I don’t want to mail in my keys and then have the discount go away…

Coupon codes will be valid until 12/31/2015.

I assume then that this does not cover old keys that now have particular difficulty staying connected, or is this clause referring to keys which are physically damaged by improper use?

This clause refers to keys which have physical damage.

Could someone please answer this? A trade in program at the World Championship would be really helpful for domestic teams as well, as not having VEXnet keys for two weeks in the month before Worlds is a serious hassle.

Yes, we will have something setup for the trade-in program at the RECF / VEX Store. Details to follow.

Thank you!
