VEXnet communication intermitten

Hi,
We have a fairly heavy bot with lots of metal. We need to keep our battery low for counterbalance. We are having trouble in that our communication over VEXnet is intermitten. We have tried moving our microcontroller and it seemed to get worse. As an experiment we put the VEXnet 802.11 Key on a usb extension cable and mounted it high on the robot. In the limited time we have had it this way, it has performed flawlessly.

Does anyone else have this issue? Have you found a way to solve it? Are there any orientations of the VEXnet 802.11 Key that work better than others?

Thanks,
Jon

Good news!

  1. No one else is responding so it doesn’t seem to be a widespread issue.

  2. After more testing it seems to be the connection of the yellow wire from the VEXnet Microcontroller Upgrade Module to the V.5 Microcontroller. When we wiggle the yellow wire the connection becomes intermitten. We are currently replacing the V.5 Microcontroller.

Going way back, this may explain why we had downloading and other issues at a competition in Maryland on Oct 31.
