VRCC-VEX Robotics College Competition, a thread for starting new teams

This is being created to provide a place where forum members can post to find others at a college or in a community that wish to come together to start new college VRC teams. If you are interested, maybe you can state the name of the college you have in mind or the city it is located in.

Last years 26 US VRCC teams can be grouped into these large areas so you have some idea where they are currently located.

It would be great to get new teams formed in these same areas so that the opportunities to have a regional event could improve. I will be tracking team enrollments for the new 2012-13 season. Contact me if you have questions.

If there is anyone interested in Florida I am willing to help them out! Just PM me after Marc and we can parent teams if need be.

Andrew,

Thanks for the offer. Last year there were 2 teams at Florida in Gainesville and one in Orlando. Currently there is a new team already registered in Palm Bay and I have been alerted to some interest in the Fort Meyers area that could lead to some new teams.

I am optimistic that maybe Florida could end up with 6-10 college teams this season. This would allow for an in state event that all could hopefully participate in.

There’s been some talk about getting a team started at WPI in Worcester, MA.

Yes there has been. A couple of my friends are going there so I hope you guys can start! I know as of now QCC has one, so if WPI gets one that will be good. There is also talk of a team getting started at UVM up in Burlington, Vermont.

The two New England participants last season were NHTI Concord’'s Community College in Concord and QCC in Worcester. It would be great to see WPI and other area state and private colleges join in to create a New England College grouping of teams. An event at either Worcester or Concord would be fairly central for New England participants to attend.

Do you know of any interest in Michigan? MSU would love to have a college sparring partner. All they’ve had in the past is our team and a few other local high school teams, but we aren’t the best practice partners for a college team.

I am thinking about starting a team in Georgia.

Kettering has expressed interest in the past.

For a new team in Georgia, you could work with the single team in South Carolina last season to your north, or you could participate with the Florida teams until more Georgia teams are formed.

To make things a little more clear I am willing to help any college team who needs help with start up questions, and things like that. We the internet is a beautiful creation so I can even help mentor through skype if need be.

Just send me an email at [email protected] if you have any questions with structure or anything really.

If they register, could you let me know, so I can tell MSU?

My objective is to use this thread to do things like that. I want the college community to know who is joining, and have prospects let others know where they might need some help so others can maybe help make new teams a reality.

I hope to get a team started in Georgia at SPSU(Southern Poly State University).

I don’t want to assume what SPSU stands for…

I am not fully certain on this but we might be starting a team in UMBC in Maryland this year. There is some possibility but unknown at the moment.

Send me an email at [email protected]. I might be able to hook you up with a few other members that i know who are going there if you still need team mates. My team is going to based in Cumming, GA/Macon, GA.

We are currently in the process (very early stages) of starting the team. Due to the different schedule that Kettering has compared to most other schools, this process is not very easy and will take some time.

But, we have officially started forming the team which is awesome!

Fantastic to hear this. With Kettering and some other Ohio area colleges this is starting to look like there will be enough teams in the midwest to have a nice event somewhere in that general area.

Just letting the College teams know that we have two new college teams registered in VRCC for this season. One from Honolulu, Hawaii and the other in the Palm Bay area of Florida.
