OK, since the fields won’t be ready for some time (almost 2 months), what can we do as a community about making our own connectors? Or better yet, how can we improve these ones?
The field spec has the CAD files of the entire kit and the connectors are in there.
I think I see the problem with the connector. It has a very thin section that appears to be folded into place from a flat manufactured piece. This has to be the weak part.
The part C sub-assembly would seem to be the weakest element to me with a tiny fold point. (highlighted in the first picture)
How can we make the central area into a solid mass of plastic and 3-D print that as one? Will it work? The angles would be rather strange so the hollowed out rod connector points would be printed on an angle.
Any ideas on strengthening the joint otherwise? A big wad of gum?
