What Are Some Of Your Favorite Memories From This Season?

Hello All! Spin Up season is coming to an end soon, and a new season will be revealed! With that being said, what are some of your favorite memories from this season? Mine are winning the Innovate, Excellence, and Design awards, and also just being with my team in general, and even though we didn’t make Worlds, I’m still glad to have the opportunity to work with them now and in the future!
I can’t wait for next season to start! It’ll be my 3rd VRC season! Onto high school next year!

One of my favourites was shooting someone in the head with our expansion (not on purpose). I also enjoyed the looks on people’s faces when I picked 14th (last) seed team from 2nd place. I also enjoyed making it to the finals after being 10th in alliance selection. I also enjoyed watching a foreign team that came to compete here in the uk getting smashed in the finals by my favourite robot.

My team won design at Kalahari, was very exciting. We are sadly not going to worlds either though… Was a super fun season though.

Yeah, I feel that too. Winning Innovate, Excellence, and Design awards were pretty impressive though.
Next season we’ll make it in, hopefully!

Mine is probably when I got first In the st cloud tech tournament and I also think I played your team at that tournament

Winning our state tournament after being ranked last place. Pretty fun when you go from 1-5 to 6-5 with the 4th ranked team.

Going undefeated and winning my first tournament was a great experience. Everyone was respectful, everyone had a great time.

Going undefeated at and taking states in VA was a major highlight for us.

Making it to Grand Finals at US Open, that was a fun experience. Even though we lost to 2775 and 81Y, we had a good time.

This story isn’t about the actual competition, it is about our hotel stay the night before the state competition. We arrived about 9 pm and got everything set up, then we realized that someone brought a Wii to play on the TV. We were all excited, but then realized the hotel TV doesn’t have the correct ports to plug it into. This is part 1 of 5 for the night.

Next, in 47 degree weather, some people in our group think it is a good idea to swim in the hotel pool. They somehow survived and dried off when they got out.

After that, we went to the hotel workout room and I think someone got on the treadmill and got up to 15 mph for 30 minutes. I lifted 60 pounds on each arm for 10 minutes, but everyone else was messing around and playing catch with the medicine balls (A very bad idea). The hotel management got called and told us to be quiet.

After the gym, we all got into the elevator and were going to go back to our hotel room when someone in our group hit the call and alarm buttons. All of us immediately got out and either ran quietly to the end of the halls and hid or went back into the exercise room to pretend like we were working out the whole time. Me and someone else got into the other elevator to go to our hotel room and chill there for the night.

Before bedtime, we went to all the hotel rooms we rented out. A total of 4. Since I am the only one that likes tea in our group, I took all the complimentary tea bags and had some good tea that night. In our hotel room, there was me in 8th grade, another eighth grader, and two sixth graders with two beds. Since the sixth graders don’t want to sleep in the same bed, one pulled the cushions off the chair and slept on them. I also didn’t want to share a bed so I slept on the ground. I actually think that the special type of hardwood floor that this hotel uses is very comfy. It was not carpet. Had a good rest and packed up in the morning to go to competition. All in all, a good night.

I would have to join vex_noob in saying my favorite memory is actually not centered around competition itself, but my team. We had an excellent bus ride where we all told each other funny stories, dark secrets, and just generally bonded. I remember that bus ride fondly every day.

Now, for my absolute favorite vex centered/competition moment… it would probably be whenever we had to build and program a robot in inspection line. It was super difficult, but we managed to pull it off- and we made it just as far as the rest of our school did. It was very fun.

Not from this year, but last year at Worlds I slept on a cabinet covered in foam tiles because the bathtub was already taken.

Winning Innovate at States after having won a total of 0 awards all season until that moment is naturally my favorite memory from this season. There was also this one time where all of the robots had a string mechanism and all of the string was white… it was complete chaos and it took around ten minutes for the judges to figure out what string belonged to what alliance after the match was over, and another five minutes to untangle all of the string.

My favorite memory this year was at our third tournament of the season, I tried to fix the code or at least improve it by putting in a turn right now I did not realize how funny their results and come out and how chaotic because my intention was I had to turn right 90° I never specified 90°, so during our first match of the tournament, our robot did the stuff it was supposed to do in autonomous it’s scored the roller and then just started spinning around in a circle I’m probably one of the funniest part about that is how the MC for the tournament said “we have two rollers for red, and two rollers and a spinning robot for blue” or something along those lines, I don’t really remember it was a while ago, but then, after that me, and one of my teammates had a really stupid idea which was to keep the code the way it was and to attach a speaker to the robot and then when the bot starts spinning, you spin me right round would start playing and then everyone on our alliance or at least on our team would start T posing and spinning around in a circle. It was really funny but suddenly our team did not approve. I’m really excited to see what chaos high school brings, especially if I hopefully get on one of the more silly teams next year
