What are the Categories in our Discourse Forum and When to Use them

Hello All,

I have decided to embark on a small project to help organize this forum through a master thread with detailed descriptions for each category, allowing new users to be better acclimated to the forum and not post topics in incorrect categories. This should be a thread that’s easy to access. I could use some help from fellow Regulars on this Forum to develop this and for that reason I’m going make this a Wiki.

I hope through this we can strengthen the forum etiquette and make it easier to find things and stay organized

All the categories already have topics with what to write pin in them like…

These are however a bit allover the place with having too short descriptions and others putting a wired template for writing posts.

The only problem with your thing is that it will just sink in the timeline and new people will see it. There is also this wiki thread with a lot more Wiki but it has the same problem, new users just wouldn’t see it. You would need an admin to permanently put stuff like this somewhere where, especially new, people will see it.

Yea that was kinda my idea… once it’s done we can have @DRow pin it for new users

Honestly, in my opinion, the category names are self-explanatory. I really don’t see any further explanation helping with the miscategorization problem.

In general, the people miscategorizing topics usually seem to be either people generally unfamiliar with online forum usage or people who just don’t bother reading (not reading forum usage guidelines, asking questions explicitly answered in the game manual, not bothering to search existing topics, …).
