What batteries to use for robot transmitter

Hi guys, since we have started vex, other than parts from vex, our second largest expenditure is on batteries. We didn’t by cheap but we didn’t buy expensive, and because the vex rechargeable system was out of stock for months before the comp we didn’t have time to get one. Does anybody know of a good AAA battery charger that works well, and has a fast charge time ???

Thanks

If your using cortex, take a normal battery socket (Opposite of the battery) and some wire. Solder some wire on to the terminals, and attach the battery socket accordingly. Its legal. I did it at many of my competitions. It saves time on changing batteries, and lasts longer. Also, its helpful if you put a place to mount it on your controller.

Cheers dude, didn’t know if that was allowed, awesome , thanks … also i have a 9.7v battery pack similar to the one you can buy from vex, could i solder this onto it ? …

Be careful with additions to the joystick, this has discussed before and there is a fine line between what is legal and what is not. If what you do is considered a modification it is illegal.

Here is one such thread.

We stick with NiMH during practice and then switch to fresh Alkaline for competitions, we find one set of Alkaline batteries will last all day but generally switch to new batteries for elimination rounds.

Personally if you are not going to get the VEX batteries I would get some Sanyo Eneloops. They’re relatively inexpensive, rechargeable and last for quite a while. I run the AA Eneloops in my DSLR and i rarely ever have to charge it. Here is an 8 pack from Amazon and the chargers are not very expensive.

alright, awesome, just ordered some eneloops x 16 (2 packs) good price + i already own a nimh charger

you will be very happy with them. They hold a charge for a long time when theyre not being used. I use them in my DSLR and can get almost 1500 photos out of them. Better than any lithium I have ever bought.

yeh, i hope they work well, all the reviews say they are really good …
