I was reading through the game manual and noticed that there was now a plastic limit that was issued. 12 pieces for a robot. I was wondering why they created this rule, as there was no issue with plastics in high stakes. THis rule would just cause heavier robots, and also cause robots to look uglier.
except when there were… I suspect inspection was getting problematic among other issues.
Plus side, teams have 33% more plastic to work with, but constrained to 12 pieces.
My guess is that the 12x24 inch rule was too hard to enforce and teams would clearly skirt the boundaries of functional/non-functional.
As an inspector, I think this is a great change. As a mentor, it will force teams to be more creative.
It’s likely due to the growing importance of plastic in modern robot design.
Since plastic is so important, the difference between teams with a cnc/lazer cutter and the teams that need to hand cut is HUGE.
Vex wants teams that can’t afford a lazer or cnc to still have a chance.
Not that I agree with the rule or anything, I personally think it stifles innovation, but i can see why they made it.
It’s What It’s
My best guess is that they want to make hoppers harder to make, but there could be a million reasons
