my answer to this is yes, it has to. Otherwise the game would literally be impossible to play or ref with any level of enjoyment. If there is a technicality in the rule which is this bad, I think <g3> gives us a reasonable excuse to ignore it entirely. I’ll point to This q&a, which asked the question, is it illegal to tip an opponents platform before 30 seconds? The answer to this (before the game update) was technically yes, but despite that we all basically ignored that because it was stupid (arguably much less stupid than this ring technicality though).
I’d be all for making a q&a pointing out this issue, and until it’s remedied( which it will be eventually, because there’s no way this is what the gdc is intending to happen) we can just all collectively ignore it like we did with the tipping platform issue.
