We were thinking of building a 5/3 (geared for speed) 200 rpm Omni tank drive. Will that be enough for maxing skills?
that will definitely be enough to max it out. I’m about certain that a regular 200 RPM drive would be able to achieve it.
People have don’t it in 35 seconds in a Sim
is there a vid of someone actually doing that?
Yes there is. Pretty sure on youtube
If you wanna max skills, I’d say you need to gear up 600 5:3 for extra speed
Anything else is too slow
What? I have seen vids and it looks kinda easy not need for more than 200 RPM
*360 or 1000 rpm actually, depending on which way you’re going. Either way that’s far faster than necessary on 4" wheels.
EDIT: I do agree that 257 is a pretty ideal drive speed
Your right. I was thinking 3/7 600rpm, and honestly 257 rpm is a pretty perfect speed, but a really good driver could utilize a faster speed. I am thinking 360 is too much, even for a really good driver. between 300-340 would be the fastest I expect someone to go.
Wait how did you get 257? I thought ours is 200*(5/3)=333?
600 * 5/3 = 1000 rpm, which is the bare minimum for skills
257 comes from 600 * (3/7) = 257
(not 7/3, since you are lowering speed; obviously 1400 rpm is too fast)
@trexing123 , he’s just saying that 333 might be a little too fast until you get insanely good at driving. You could do 600 * (1/2) using chain and sprockets to get 300 rpm. That might be the way to go, as 333 inst really necessary (yet). 46535K has 257 rpm and got max skills with a pretty sloppy run. you could easily max out skills (with a good bot) with 200 rpm direct drive.
What about match play? Would it be more useful to have a higher speed to move around the field better in a back and forth game like this?
I don’t see why not. The vast majority of cases in a match you are going to need speed. You only need torque when you are in a push fight, and a good driver with a small robot can easily outmaneuver anyone who has designed their robot to be slow and tanky. In other words, you don’t need to worry about defense if they cant touch you.
I should have probably clarified that we are using 3.25 omnis so a little more torque. Does this make 333 a better option than 257?
Well also if you have skirts and wedges then you should be able to beat most people in a push fight too. I have rarely seen any defense bot that uses those.
That is the main use of wedges: aiding in defense. They were utilized by 62A in ITZ and 929U’s second turning point robot.
Sorry, I meant in my area of competition. The first time I have seen someone utilize them in my area is 46535k.
