PID is an algorithm used for motors to do extremely precise movements. I would highly suggest learning PID once you are roughly a sophomore or junior, as it can also help you with learning Calculus if you plan to take that class. Bear in mind, there are many many other types of control loops, but PID is the most popular due to its simplicity and ease-of-use.
