The discussion of a lifetime. What vex game is the best overall in recent years? In my opinion its definitely slapshot or full volume.
Ive been playing since Ringmaster, so heres my rating. (Subjective, ofc, my opinion isnt fact)
-
Slapshot
-
Ringmaster
-
Squared Away
-
Next Level
-
Full Volume
-
Pitching In
-
Rise Above (opinion jaded because of covid though)
I agree with the slapshot although the different field frictions were annoying. I do think pitching in is up their higher. I don’t like how max score was easy, but it was still a fun game that everybody could have fun in. but it was definitely on the easier side.
I’ve been coaching since Crossover but I’ve helped teams part time since Add It Up.
My rankings are subjective but I do have a soft spot for my number one since it was my first world’s appearance.
- Ringmaster
- Pitching in
- Squared Away
- Slapshot
- Next Level
- Crossover
- Full Volume
- Rise Above (Covid really made this game not as fun as I thought it would be)
Patriot Bias, we love to see it.
I thought slapshot was lit. You could run a speedy match cycle because it took little time to reset. Other than the bad tolerances on the field elements, it was a fun game.
My personal favorite game was pitching in. (Take this lightly I only played 2 years) Pitching in in my opinion was such a good game in comparison to slapshot. This years game is easily the worst game though, I really dislike how it is played and just the whole game.
Slapshot was good but the scoring was weird. ex. getting 1 point per disk out, zones that you shoot into, touching endgame. It was alright, but it could definitely be better.
Also, I made worlds for pitching in with just a basic pusher bot. It was even for all teams to be good, as long as you had a good driver.
Slapshot for sure the best.\
Wasnt your first season slapshot??
I agree with how those are placed although I haven’t been part of vex that long.
The main reason many people didnt like pitching in was because many of the dome teams ended up being neat identical through parallel evolution, and so many teams maxed out at worlds that the tiebreakers took forever. However, other than that, it was definiteley a fun game.
That is true. I feel like it was an great game but they could have added a little bit more depth to the game.
That is a great point. Honestly depends on how you take that. I like that max score was possible because it put teams on a similar level. I do understand this stance on it though. I remember at worlds when like 5 teams got max so they had to do stop time once they narrowed it to 2 teams.
Everything before 2022. CopyBots have taken over vex iq, hopefully next year that goes
This also adds time though more to the depth. It would have been cool if they did a game where you half to click a buzzer at the end of the match and the sooner you click it the more points.
Take my answer of pitching in lightly though because I missed worlds in slapshot but made worlds in pitching in…
Incorrect, I started with Pitching In.
Pitching in was very fun, but all the teams had one single meta, the intake and double catapult. This made it kind of weird to see almost every team have the same robot and there was just like no diversity in robots. Still a very fun game especially at the beginning of the season. I hated slapshot
I have several favorites, but my favorite ending to a game was the 2017 game Crossover where the 2 teams had to balance on the bridge. Made for such an exciting ending and so much strategy to coordinate the different weights of bots.
I personally would love to see a game challenge that incorporated some of the best games into one game. We could call it Throwback!
