Hello. So, currently I’m stuck on what to build. I was going to go with a flywheel on a lift as they are easy and time-saving. But, there is a kicker on a lift that gives more of an accuracy but more time is used. I don’t know what to do!
Crazy thing, we don’t know either!
You’ve already detailed the pros and cons of each, it’s your decision.
However, I will give you some questions to consider in your decision:
How much time do you have?
How much do you care about accuracy (How much does skills matter to you)
What is the skill level of your builders?
the meta for Over under is literally just drive good. build what you want. as long as you can matchload and manipulate triballs and get some sort of hang ur good and if u drive good u will win no matter what robot.
i got about 2 weeks until states; skills matter a lot; we got a few skilled builders ( me and another person).
Throwing in one more consideration - how consistent is/are your match-loader(s)?
then it should be a straightforward decision-making?
Our team is doing a catapult on a four bar lift with a 6m drive and 1m intake and pnuematic lift.
I 100% agree with you. But, what is the best tier to get to to consider as a good hang and taking the time to make a hang?
About the same idea but a 4m (44w) drive and 1m (11w) intake and a 2m (22w) lift with a 1m (11w) fly. So 66w.
4 piston Btier bar hang and balance A hang is quick and easy and there are tons of great examples already out there.
Ace 229V has seen much success with their latest robot, with a twin c tier hang.
I think it comes down to how much skills matter to you. If you think you can win skills to qualify for worlds then try that. (Although Skills doesn’t qualify for worlds in my state). My team is a flywheel, but I think that if you build a good shooter like Ace Robotics 229v, that would be best for skills. You also need to think about how much you will be using the bowling strategy in your games. In the end, it’s your decision.
the only problem with that is the fact it can’t elevate that high. With the meta becoming going back and forth with tribals, there are lower scores. This makes a good elevation more important. I assume teams such as them and robocauz are going to be rebuilding and working for higher elevations on newer robots. Also why is your name not Riley Markley
With the meta rotating around bowling, the faster you can bowl the better. Any hang above D tier is likeley to weigh alot, which will result in a worse acceleration curve, and thus worse bowling. Often, the match is decided by how many triballs you can score at the last second before you hang, as the bonus for the opponents hanging high can be offput by simply scoring 3 triballs then rushing a pole balance hang.
Summary
Entropy is easier to remember than Riley Markley, and if people are interested in my channel they can check my bio. The legacy I left in IQ means basically nothing in VRC, so if/when I make a name for myself then there may be a reason, but as of right now there is not.
this is what I do, as I have a goofy robot that is made for fun and is overly complicated. I just drive extremely well and play heavy defense or bowl.
I have a 27.5" puncher that I never use due to how poorly it works because it gives the other alliance leverage over those triballs.
