I’ve been seeing these two configurations for catapult arm’s, recently pop up. What is the purpose for raising the angle at which the catapult head sits at in picture 2.

I suspect launch angle gives a higher or lower arc.
I recommend you try both, experiment and doument your results in your engineering notebook.
