If you’d like, tell why you like this type of drive.

As a programmer who mainly drives the robot to reset when practicing auton, it is helpful to have a way to control the robot with one hand. I don’t necessarily think it is the best choice for everyone, but it does serve my purposes better than other options.
As a driver i prwfer tank b2cause of the control you get over thw robot. With tank you control each side seperatley which makes it alot easier to exectue manuvers like arcs and all kinds of other crap you cam to with arcade.
I generally prefer split arcade because it is more intuitive for me, and allows me to do more precise straight lines and on-spot turns. While arcade makes it harder to arc relative to tank, if you want to go in a straight line from where you are facing, s-arcade you just tilt the stick forward, but tank you have to time them in sync. Likewise for turns.
Please note that if you have not picked a drive scheme yet, I would reccomend learning tank over arcade, because a skilled tank driver will be able to outperform in most cases a skilled split-arcade driver, its just a matter of personal and practiced preferance over many years of driving, as I have always used split-arcade.
do the people who use tank drive use any of the 3d printed scuf paddles? I use left arcade and use the abxy buttons while moving all the time, but with tank, this wouldn’t be possible
Tank drive, you can regulate power to each side, so ur less vulnerable to motor overheat
As a driver, I prefer tank control as it makes more sense to me, and allows me to do stuff like arc turns and things like that. As for things like scuff paddles, we don’t use that as of now, and we don’t have a problem with button pressing since we mapped our most used buttons (intake and cata) to the top buttons so we can use them while driving.
As someone who has seen this topic many times before, it’s really just preference. There are pros and cons for both it’s up to the driver’s preference as they are the one driving the robot.
This has been a fight in myclub for so long. Everyone uses tank drive except for me, i use left joystick Everyone says its bad but i find that i carnt use tankdrive it just confused me.
I used to like Left Arcade a lot (i still do) but i learned tank last year and use it mostly. I find tank to be a bit easier, but arcade makes a lot more sense in my brain.
Yeah i could not get used tank.
As a relatively experienced driver I think tank drives are superior. For example , when one of the motors overheats or you get something stuck in the drive that impairs the movement of one side you can compensate with the joysticks unlike any other form of joystick configuration. It also feels easier to make more complicated defensive maneuvers with our 6 motor drive.
I drive with out scuffs just fine but im planning to get some soon as it willl help a little. One thing that i learned to do is to shift my pointer finger ip to the joustick when i want to use the arow buttons or the abxy buttons. Not as effective as scuffs and takes a bt of practce
I will usually use tank drive for my bots. However, I use a very different layout than usual. I’m not a fan of using the analog sticks. I prefer to use the A button as left side full power forward and R2 as right side. I use B and R1 for the corresponding reverse movements. I like this more than traditional tank because it allows me to drive with one hand, utilizing the other for other functions. To me there is no need for precise motion control. Fill power is all I use
I think arcade is just easier to control and understand. Tank just seems harder to control. It’s also not really all that hard to code.
We use split arcade because it is easier to understand.
My team uses right arcade. It makes it easier to use the rest of your fingers to control other robot functions, but it is sometimes harder to code.
(It’s kind of sad, I’m looking at the vote right now and seeing 2% voted for right arcade drive.)
