Our team are looking into spray painting C-channels, gears, and sprockets; are their any parts that I should avoid spray painting?
Avoid spray painting gears and sprockets it could come off and gum up the mechanism. You should dye gears and sprockets instead.
General rule of thumb is that it’s good to avoid painting parts that rub against other parts as the paint will form a layer that can get in the way (and will be worn off quicker), and don’t paint flexible parts as when they stretch or compress the paint will just flake off. Last year we dyed some of our green gears, sprockets, and omni rollers as well as some other stuff black and it turned out fairly well. The dye we used was Rit DyeMore Advanced Liquid Dye for Polyester, Acrylic, Acetate, Nylon and More : Amazon.ca: Home
(can’t confirm that dyed omni rollers are vrc legal)
