What to buy to set up a VEX field, Tower Takeover

Im thinking of buying a half field, but im on a rather strict budget, what would be the minimum requirements to buy in order to set up a field for practicing. would a half field be enough?
Thanks

I mean, a full field is of course ideal, but if funding is an issue you should be able to make do with a half field.

Ah, also, what difference is there between field element kit 1 and field element kit 2. Why is it split into 2 products?

Also would opting out of field tiles affect the gameplay?

Not using the foam tiles may change how you drive because the robot will drive slightly different on different surfaces. So if you programmed autonomous on not the foam tiles, it might be a little off on the actual feild.

Field tiles are pretty much a must have, if you were to opt out of something let it be the perimeter

ok, these have everything for a bare minimum field right?

The tiles are not textured and are matte, not shiny (I’m not sure if matte and shiny foam have different amounts of friction or if the shiny foam would be slicker)

No, the Field element kits are only for the feild elements (like Towers) you would also need to purchase 1 or two game element kits (one game element kit=half the fields)(or you could buy individual cubes). Then you should get foam tiles (or if not the vex ones the closest ones you can find). Perimeter isn’t a must but make sure you position the bot against where the wall would be for autonomous.

okay, I think ill buy the vex ones then.

You could use wood instead of buying a $800 perimeter. I’m not sure how expensive wood is but it shouldn’t be over $200.

Ok, wow thanks for all this info. Is about 782$ very expensive for a field without perimeter, and misc parts.

DISCLAIMER: (if it says it ships in 8 weeks that’s a complete lie.) best to order soon as possible

You could cut the price if you were to get tiles not from vex. If you were to buy from somewhere else you would have to make sure the tiles feel the same as the official vex ones.

how long is general shipping for field parts to Austin?

Should be quicker then average since vex is located in Texas.
