What tools do other teams use for writing their engineering notebooks?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently working on our team’s engineering notebook, and I’m curious about what tools other teams use for this purpose. Do you use digital tools like Google Slides, Notion, or any other software?

I’d love to hear about the tools you use, why you chose them, and any tips you might have.

Thanks in advance!

Personally, my team uses LaTeX, specifically the cloud based Overleaf compiler, and honestly I don’t think I’d recommend it. I’d recommend sticking to the Google Slides Template. LaTeX makes your notebook look really nice and professional, but it’s just too much work. It’s still a great skill to learn though, especialy for those considering engineering as a career.

my team uses Slides. we initially used the VEX template for Slides, but created our own after our first year. It works fairly well, but you do have to manually update the Table of Contents, which is a pain at times. we debated switching to Docs this season, but we have a format we liked for Slides and didn’t feel like having to redo it.
one of my friends on a different team uses Docs, and that seems to be working pretty well for him. There’s an auto-create Table of Contents, which is very nice, and Docs formatting isn’t really harder than Slides (for inserting images and everything) once you get used to it.

Thanks everyone for the advice.

It seems like a lot of people are using the official template, so I might give it a try too.

I love it, my teammates probably dislike me
