Broke into (unlocked) the teacher lounge so we could access the only vending machine in the school allowed to have soda.
I also gotta give him kudos for running up 6 very large sets of escalators to tell us guys that were eating McD’s on the top floor that our qualifying team at the state competition was on deck.
Also, he answers my questions about ordering, registering, etc even after I transferred schools.

What an amazing guy. I really appreciate him. Too bad his program switched to a different competition than VRC.

Spending way too much of his own money on parts because he’s too nice and we don’t have enough money. What a guy.

Paid over $450 of her own money so the teams who qualified for Worlds could have personalized gear to wear.

My coach, who is my awesome dad, got pneumonia right before my first competition of my freshman year. He wanted to be there and do something to get me hyped up, so he got a piece of paper and wrote, “good luck team” on it then taped it on. I bought this part from the school and I keep it on my desk because this guy went through 8 years of robotics between my brother and I.

The most amazing thing my mentor ever did was become a robotics mentor…

No

Taught me how to teach drivers to keep focus (aka drive with a purpose) and how to walk roboteers through the design process.

Yes, even mentors have mentors!

Are you sure about that, @Team19697?

Honestly, just being there for us for all those years. I have heard stories of coaches not letting teams advance on to higher competitions because of how they qualified, and/or not staying out of their teams’ designing/building processes, and I’m glad my coach has remained helpful yet hands off when need be.

To my coach, thank you for being there for us. From all of our ups and our downs, you have always been there for us, and I could not have asked for a better coach!

Yes, I am very sure

and sometimes those mentors who are way younger than you! Underlying message from them that I relay to teams “Build better robots!” and elder mentor of mine noted that the design process never ends.

I think this sums up the essence of mentoring pretty well...

Lets give a round of  to the mentors, who tirelessly guide us both on the forums and irl.

Epic could be being there every day, answering basic questions and be ready to run to the hardware store to get another pack of zip-ties 5 min before it closes the night before competition.
