How are you getting 333rpm?
200 RPM cartridges 60:36 gear ratio.
I mean that is what my team has done for 3 years anf it has suited us pretty well. But in the end itās up to you to decide what is good for your team.
Yeah so we were planning on doing a 200 rpm motor on a 5 to 3 ratio so 200*5/3 is 333. But since cading, our robot I noticed that on 3.25 in wheels the axels cross the wheels so we are now going to do a 600 rpm motor and a 3 to 5 producing 360 rpm which is pretty similar.
Itās time to play with ratios!
I can say been there and done that and trust me when I say I never want to attempt building that thing again.
Which one yall think would be better, a 4 motor drive with only omoni wheels, or that but with 2 traction wheels as well.
The robot will be a tank drive.
Oh and should i use 4 or 6 wheels, (i think 6 might make the motors have a higher chance of overheating really quick).
If you are using 4 motors and donāt have an obscenely heavy robot then your motors shouldnāt overheat to the point where they stop working in a match.
Iām saying, 4 motors and 6 wheels, and the robot will be kind of heavy.
Wonāt the 6 wheels increase chances of overheating, since 2 motors on each side must support 3 wheels.
Sorry if Iām just being dumb right now.
No, I am also not 100% sure so you arenāt being dmub, but I can with a good amount of confidence that the added wheel will not make the motors overheat faster to a meaningful degree.
Yeah that is what we ran last year. We put the wrong ratio on it, so it was a little too fast, but it didnāt overheat much.
More wheels can decrease tile sink and actually make your robot run cooler. But also I donāt see a reason to not run a 55w drive to have a bit more power. I would run 6 wheel if you can if you are concerned about overheating.
Ok thanks.
The reason Iām planning to do a 44w drive is because there wonāt be enough motors for the other features that require motors.
In my opinion, 6 wheels gives improved stability and control with the robot. If you are just using 4 omnis it might be too unstable, but idk. All I know is that in general, meta teams usually go for either 6 wheels or even 8 wheels. I think this season most teams will use six wheels, so I would recommend 4 omnis and 2 traction wheels.
As for the amount of motors, that is a bit more controversial, so that is up for your team to decide.
I think i will go with 6 wheels, but not sure about the traction wheels.
what would be the best way to gear that for the fastest speed with 4 motors? im not really sure about that
It is purely driver preference in my opinion. Just omnis makes the robot capable of turning rapidly and the robotās movement capabilities increase. However, you are more susceptible to lateral pushing as omnis donāt have much friction along that axis. Teams who use omnis with the traction wheel generally have less skilled driverās as the traction wheel in the middle makes it a lot easier to drive. Due to SG10 this season, I think that if you have a less experienced driver, it will be better for you to put traction in the middle rather than risk an SG10 violation and get DQed.
I have actually seen a suprising number 8 wheel drivetrains even though I agree that 6 is best and 8 is very uneccesary.
I js looked through the manual, and I canāt find rule SG10, and Iāve read through the entire thing.
Could u tell me what page it is on.
Ok thank you.
This year, our team has a low chance of getting a good driver. And i might become the driver, and im pretty bad at driving.
thx.
In response to the general question, teams are doing these 4 drivetrains or something similar to this.
- 4 11 W Motor 450 rpm drive with 2.75 inch wheels: This is on the faster end of the drivetrains this year, but many teams are doing it. Because it uses 2.75 inch wheels it offers a lower center of gravity, which might be important this season. Max speed of: 3.68 mph.
- 4 11 W Motor 360 rpm drive with 3.25 inch wheels: This is on the slower end. It has slightly more torque than the drivetrains listed above. Has a higher center of gravity though making it more unstable. Max Speed: 3.48 mph.
The other two drives are just those two with 4 11 W motors and 2 5.5 W motors.
