What's the fastest possible drivetrain in vex?

dude that’s not even regulated to be in the comp

it will most likely overheat too fast in comp and would be uncontrollable so it might just go crazy and go somewhere out of the field

I already have a 8 motor drive train (the picture) I made for a tug of war assignment. Next week, I’m going to switch it to my custom 3d printed 3600rpm cartridges and build a 1:7 gear ratio.

The drive is green cartridges with a 2.33:1 ratio to generate torque. So about 85 rpm with 4 inch wheels.

I built an 8 motor drive with 1000RPM 4.125" wheels and it flew.
200RPM cartridge with 1:5 gear ratio.
I wish I made a video of it. It was made for fun and used in one game. Was very difficult to not hit walls lol

I know this is a bit old, but I believe you’re talking about 9364H.

if someone gets the 3600 cartridge to push even a normal vex chassis I will be surprised, they have like 0 torque. Also the acceleration required would be quite a lot. Didn’t those gearboxes get banned as well.

That’s exactly what I am working on… A 8 motor, 4 wheel chassis using 3600 cartridges.

I would recommend using 3 tall c-channels with bearings as that will help reduce friction greatly.

No, it was made illegal after the spin up season was over.

I might have to try that in a future build. I have 3 wide C channels but I don’t have any experience with them as I’ve always just used 2 wide and the rebuild is 80% complete.
Also, how do 3 tall C-Channels with flat bearings decrease friction compared to 2 wide with flat bearings?

Maybe, depends on the way the ref calls it. I would say no just to be safe but you can try.
Here is why I say that.
It’s legal because it’s all vex parts and not using illegal fabrication.
It’s maybe not legal because this could be considered electrical component customization which is not allowed. It’s not technically an electrical part although I believe there is a specific motor rule.
Up to you but I would just gear the thing up legally so there is no question. Also this whole forum has forgotten about compound gear ratios?

I think they meant ball bearings. The ball bearings actually increase friction unless you take all of the lubricant out of it.

Not flat bearings, ball bearings. Using a 3x c channel simply gives you the space to integrate ball bearings rather than flat bearings. I apologize for the miscommunication.
