Wheels and Motors

We were recently deciding to change the base of our robot; we are planning to use four 2.75" omni-wheels (the smaller ones) on the front of the robot (two each side), and two normal 4" wheels on the back. We are planning on four high-speed motors (I’m not sure if turbo is a good idea, we are currently at ~13-15 lbs).

What’s the best way to maximize speed?

We were using two 4" omni-wheels on the front and two normal wheels on the back powered by four high torque motors before… Too slow…

*Will chaining the small omni-wheels on the front help?

It simply sounds like you aren’t running a high enough of a gear ratio. 1:1 is way too slow for a 13 pound robot. I would recommend 2:1. Turbo is too aggressive for only 4 motors though.

It’s difficult to chain up to the front wheels if they are smaller; you need all of the wheels that touch the ground to spin at the same speed. If you did the math I’m sure it’s possible to, but it will definitely be easier to just power the 4" wheels.

Mhm I will discuss this with my teammates. Thanks for your input
