We are looking to find a thread that included some pictures of a robot. The key thing we are looking for is a picture of a drive train that had three wheels per side, front and back omni wheels, and the center wheel was a traction wheel that was covered in non-slip mat. We have searched for this thread, but have not been able to track it down.
Here’s what we think we remember from the thread:
-
It was some type of “season update” thread, posted very early in a season. It was either the Sack Attack or Toss Up season.
-
It had many pages of replies.
-
There were pictures in the initial post.
If anyone remembers and can find this thread, or this was your team’s robot, we would like to get a link to the thread.
The particular thing we are interested in is traction wheels with non-slip mat applied. If anyone else is using wheels like this and has had good or bad experiences with them, we’d be interested in hearing that also. If you don’t mind posting a picture, we’d appreciate seeing some close-ups.
Thanks,
Irv
We used wheels covered in antislip multiple times and have used the thick matting as well as the thin matting. Here are some pictures:

I would recommend just using the VEX high-traction tires as the antislip wears pretty quickly.](http://i886.photobucket.com/albums/ac62/Howard_Lin/46_zpsacc29617.jpg)
I’m going to guess you’re talking about the wheels I briefly used in SA

Video (Low Quality): [Northern New England Finals Match 1 - YouTube
Advantages :
- Very good grip, especially if your team doesn’t own 4in traction tires.
- Possible to mount a sprocket directly to the wheel
Disadvantages :
- Wears down quickly (you can see it eaten through quite a bit in the image)
- Stresses the drive more so then a regular traction wheel.
I used the wheels for one competition, but found it unnecessary for Sack Attack defense so I ditched it for an all omni’s setup.

We have 8 wheels on our drive, 4 4" omnis in the corners, 2 regular med wheels in the front middle, and 2 sprockets with anti-slip mat in the rear-middle. None of the middle wheels touch the ground when we drive, so it works like a normal tank drive. They work very well for going over the bump, getting a lot of traction on the smooth surface. Haven’t used them for normal driving though.
Yes, thank you, this was the thread we were looking for.
And thanks to everyone else who shared your experiences with this technique.
