I have faced this decision in the past, until COVID decided for me. But I am still interested to hear what you think.
I switched in 8th grade. The earlier you switch the worse you’ll start off, but the better you’ll be as a senior
IMO the best time to switch depends on whether you are able to cope with managing larger teams and higher time commitment.
I originally started VRC in 7th grade, then had to do IQ in 8th grade, then skipped robotics entirely in 9th due to covid, and now starting VRC again in 10th.
I switched mid fall of my 9th grade year. I was tied to VIQC and scared of moving up, but I managed in time. I think that it’s beneficial to stay in viqc and be amongst your peers, but if you feel like you’ve reached the top then I would move up. I think that people who are at the top of their game for an entire season can find themselves lost when they suddenly move up.
Our school lets us do IQ from 4th-6th grade and then we switch over to VRC in 7th grade. Also, happy cake day @meepmeepme
I did IQ in 5th grade and then when I switched schools (to Middle School) I did FLL for 2 years. Then when I entered High School I started VRC.
For my region it seems like the majority of middle schoolers do IQ while a small number do VRC.
I did VRC from 6th grade through high school and FLL and JFLL each for a year before that.
I switched to VRC for the 2018-2019 season as a freshman. But I had done 3 years of IQ before that.
I’m technically a junior currently (because 2020), so next season is my last.
So honestly it looks like it is pretty evenly split.
How did you guys like switching when you did?
Would you mind telling us which region?
I’m currently based out of North/Central FL. Note that every time I switched programs I also switched schools.
Iq is meant for middle school and vrc is meant for highschool?
Students in both Elementary and Middle School can compete in VEXIQ, whereas students in both Middle and High School can compete in VRC. Note that students can compete in both a VEXIQ and a VRC team and that the age limits as defined in the game manual means some high school students may be eligible to compete in VEXIQ (although I would discourage this).
