Signature Events should take place in that period between end of State/Regional/Provincial/National events and the World Championship.
They should be US Open like in nature, or like the PNW Tournament.
If anything, I’d say let only the Excellence award qualify.
But at the end of it all, there’s no one solution that will satisfy all the different parties involved.
I agree with this, That also helps with teams that go to multiple of these and pull off wins.
I’d also like to see the Robotics season move a touch. I’d like to see January be the end of the regular season and state take place in early February. That would encourage teams to start going to event’s in October instead of mid to late November. It would also give a larger span of time for these post season events.
It also allows more time for teams to plan for Worlds if States wrap up in February.
yeah, that fundraising time crunch can be killer.
It also makes the season less exhausting. Robotics already feels like we go year round with out a break, but it’s hard to sell a 5-6 month long season to parents.

School starts in September, we start robotics the last week of Sept, so we have robots ready for Dec. If we had events in Oct we would be bringing piles of parts.
I’ve suggested that teams that think they want to go to worlds to start collecting money in Sept to go. That gives them a push to win since they have the money.
Remember only 600 teams have the issue of finding money 
, the other 7,000 of us are just chilling until the game reveal in April.
Yeah I’m still adjusting to that mind set. Our organization sent a team to half of all the world championships, so we usually are among the 600.
This! It’s awesome to have time to prep and scrim before worlds too, and it’s awesome to have more time to pour over states footage to move game analysis along.
The only thing that has to happen to have your state comp in early February is to schedule it for early February, so talk to whoever does that and see what can be done. Minnesota has state the first week of February so it is possible, just have to move the date of your state competition.
@Avery_EKSDE do you guys have regular competitions on any other days than Saturday?
If State competitions take place in February and Worlds is still in April then teams that don’t qualify for Worlds or even State have even longer to wait for the next season. I didn’t qualify for Worlds this year and this slightly over one month span waiting for next years reveal has felt like forever and I want to start building a competition bot again as soon as possible after learning everything from last year.
I think that long of an offseason for teams that don’t qualify would be so boring, and I think teams don’t need that long to prepare.
That’s only if Worlds stays in April if the regular season ends in January.
@Avery_EKSDE my state’s state competition was on March 2nd so that’s quite a gap. Interesting. I guess my argument that I just typed up is invalid.
I went to a competition this year on a Friday. So yes, but the vast majority are Saturday.
I was just giving an option of how people could get their state competition earlier, personally I have no preference
For some reason, the only day you see a comp in Indiana is on a Saturday. I was talking to the RECF Manager from Michigan and he was saying they do events on the weekdays and sundays.
The point being if we were to cut out a whole month of regular season those days would need to go somewhere else.
That is true and most teams cannot start building until September so it could be hard to move everything forward
Yeah, I can’t even start really building till January so the competitions we have in February are my only shot at state. I do have times that I can work beforehand but very little. We only have comps on Saturday as well.
I could always quit my other extra curriculars but that’s not really preferred if possible.
I can’t think of any comps in Michigan that are on a weekday, I know that we have Sunday ones though, I think that we have a league that runs during the week.
Here in GA we had our state championship earlier in February this year and most people I have talked to like the change. Its given the teams that qualified an extra month to prepare for worlds and is also offset from TSA (Technology Student Association) SLC by a month which a lot of teams participate in.
So a slight aside, but relevant.
A lot of teams have been invited to Worlds off of the waitlist, in a process that isn’t transparent and to us, appear to be no set criteria or rhyme or reason for such. For a lot of people, that could be seen as unfair, but definitely raises questions.
With no global skills, the lack of transparency is upsetting.
RECF has mentioned multiple times that Worlds spots are allocated based upon region’s growth from the prior year, but if that’s the case, then why are a number of waitlist spots going out.
If there’s no skills, and your event isn’t full, why not give more spots back to the regions, and identify a new model to allocate worlds spots too, because I think the current one has outlived its utility.
Or even instead of the waitlist, once every region has had its championship, and you need extra teams, go to the global skills list and invite them. Teams that want to go to Worlds will find a way. This is the most fair way to international teams and other teams.
I have no real horse in this particular race, but this is a trend I’ve seen growing over the years.
I imagine it is whoever put their team on the waitlist first gets off the waitlist first, as that is how most waitlist work
Apparently hasn’t been the case. Some teams got off when they weren’t on it very long, others have been on it forever.
