what is the diamater of the goals, starting from the outside of the pvc, to the other outside of the pvc oppposite to it?

For future reference, here’s how people get the answers when you ask these questions:
They go to the vex home page http://www.vexrobotics.com/. Then they click the massive banner saying “Gateway”. That takes them to the vex wiki page for Gateway https://vexforum.com/wiki/index.php/Gateway. From there, at the bottom of the page, you can access all the detailed official information about this year’s game. There is a download link for a zip file: http://content.vexrobotics.com/docs/vex-gateway/VEX-Gateway-AppendixA-Field-Specifications.20110404.zip containing field specs as a PDF and also a CAD model of the field. If you want an in-browser version of just the field specs, you can get it (but only in Spanish) just below, http://content.vexrobotics.com/docs/vex-gateway/espannol/VEX.Gateway-Field.Specs20110404-Espannol.pdf.
Therein is your answer: the diameter of those black things is 10.43 inches.
I know it seems like I could of found the answer there, but my computer won’t allow me to open the files. Otherwise I could of easily found the answer.
Did you try using another web browser to open them? (Which web browser are you using? Internet Explorer? Mozilla Firefox? Google Chrome? Apple Safari? Opera or something else?) Also did you try right-clicking on the links and selecting “Save link as…” to download the file, and then try opening it from there?

I tried using Internet Explorer, and Google Chrome, but I haven’t tried right clicking on the link, and saving it though.
I would try that. I remember having problems opening the VEX .PDF files last year using Google Chrome, (I think I did end up getting them working opening them in Mozilla Firefox) but by saving them I was always able to view them, so I would either try Mozilla Firefox or try saving them.

Well I know that your question has kinda been answered, but let me just clarify. The width of the goal from the interior of the goal is about 7.824 inches, and the width from exterior of the goal( the black part) is about 10.43 inches, as said by Vex Mundi.
