My team was working on VEX, & we started wondering, what do you get for winning Worlds? Is it a giant trophy, money, or just bragging rights? Or maybe all 3?
P.S., sorry if I sound like a spoiled brat, I’m just curious

As far as i know you get a trophy and a free trip to worlds the next year. Also big bragging rights and respect from everyone that competed in that game.
And you get a spot in the STEM hall of fame
No… you dont get a free trip to worlds. You will be given a spot for worlds next year though.
Sorry thats what i meant. By “free” i meant a free spot the next year (dont have to worry about comps before)
You just get a big red trophy and an automatic qualification for the next years worlds. No money, although I think this is a factor that really holds back the growth of VEX U. There are so many other competitions that offer cash prizes at that level. The first thing people typically asked me when they were interested in joining was what the prize is, and then don’t see the point of doing it when I tell them there isn’t one.
The big red trophy and the banner. I’ve just wanted to be given a banner for winning Tournament Champion or Excellence at State, but I actually just had to buy one myself this past season (after earning it, by the way). If you win Worlds, there will be a banner! Or even if you win a division. Note: if you win with me, there will probably not be a banner for some reason.
If only there was a cash prize ;{
The competitions I have been involved in more recently have cash prizes and it makes it far more competitive, which is good and bad in ways - but not really VEX’s end goal.
Online challenge winners receive prize money in the form of VEX store vouchers. Scale-ability and sustainability are significant factors for competitions such as VRC. Grow bigger? Does you prize pool also need to grow bigger? Typically smaller competitions suit cash prizes and I do kind of agree with @Owen that VEX-U should probably offer $$/vouchers for top awards.
Winners of the VEX Worlds Championship get an automatic, pass-go-collect-$200 qualification to the next Worlds. You also get a trophy and a banner for your classroom. There may be some other stuff I don’t know about.
If you do win is it just qualification or do you get entry for free too? Like the $850 i think, is that paid for you or would you need to pay?
AFAIK you just get the qualification.
Can you use your $750 Online Challenge Winnings to contribute towards the worlds fee?
No. “$750 vexrobotics.com gift certificate” and robotevents.com is separate.
What would be a welcome addition though is being able to use the gift certificate at the worlds vex parts store.
That really brings up a point I had not considered. The rest of the world that purchases parts through 3rd party resellers are forced to use the gift certificate at VEX right? Feel like VEX could sort that out somehow.
It’s varied from year to year. Usually it gets sorted out via a reseller for our NZ teams anyhow. Shipping costs from vexrobotics.com to international destinations can be a bit high but really that’s just the reality of international airfreight. Not being able to redeem at worlds is a bit annoying tbh but it really only affects a few international teams each year so not a priority for VEX/RECF I suppose.
