World Championships Excellence Award Qualification

I am a mentor to VRC team 3129, the Green MacHHHHine in Mountain View, California. I understand that there are major changes in qualifications for the World Championships this year, and I believe that I understand them. But I have a question about qualifying for the Excellence Award at the VRC World Championships.

In our first tournament of the season, we were excited to win the Excellence Award. Because of this, we have now qualified to compete in the California State Championships. I understand that in order to get an invitation to the World Championships this year, my team has to do well at the State tournament (we’ve read about all the ways that a team can qualify).

However, my question is this: what does my team need to do to be eligible for the Excellence Award at the World Championships? If we win one of the qualifying spots at the State Championships - but not the Excellence Award, would we be still eligible for the Excellence Award at the World Championships? Could you please clarify exactly what my team has to do to become eligible for the Excellence Award at the World Championships this year. My team is very excited about this, and we want to make sure we understand the requirements.

Thanks very much,

Irv

To be eligible for the Excellence Award at the 2014 World Championship a team must meet the following requirements:
1) the team must qualify for championship through participation in a state/regional competition or through the global skills challenge.
2) the team must have have won Excellence at a local or state/regional competition in the 2013-2014 season.
3) the team must submit at least two online challenges by January 14, 2014. (Please note that online challenges are not the same thing as presubmitted awards).
4) a team must sign up for both Design and Excellence interviews at Worlds in a timely manner.
Thank you very much for the clarification.

You are welcome.
