Sorry if I misclassified this post under the wrong channel; It’s my first actual question on this forum.
So, under the NorCal state championship RobotEvents page, I see this:
“If a team double-qualifies for a World Championship spot, the state’s next highest ranking team from the World Skills Standings up to and including the State Championship receives the invitation. World Championship invitations from the World Skills Standings are issued by email after the results of the State Championship have been posted at robotevents.com, and will not be announced at the State Championship.”
In a state such as California, which has three separate state championships, I’m confused as to when the invitations will be sent out via email. The states I attended, NorCal, was last weekend, SoCal was the week before that, and the CentralCali tournament was yesterday. Was my skills score frozen last week after NorCal, or this week, after the Central California state championship? NorCal results have been posted to robotevents, and I believe Central Cali has too, but I haven’t heard of any teams get the email yet (I might be mistaken). Given that 5 worlds spots weren’t awarded to any teams at states, would they just directly be allocated to those with the “highest worlds-unqualified skills scores in the state”? I couldn’t find a definite answer to this on the Unofficial Vex Discord, so any clarification would be appreciated.
To clarify, it seems like each championship would be independent of each other. If you care enough, though, you could look at who qualified last season in order to confirm. But, that seems like a lot of work for a region as large as California.
I was trying to look for a better list of the top 50 teams in skills, but for last year, there were a whopping 63 slots available for qualification for Worlds from California’s HS division (And also one team that won an online challenge, so take note). Out of those 63 slots, 13 were double qualifying spots (and in two cases, triple qualifying). There were only 5 teams that didn’t qualify via any of the state tournaments that still attended Worlds (2 7700’s, one of which was still in the top 50 skills after the year was older, two 8000’s, and one 315.)
The moral? idek, VEX even allowed us Californians the Sportsmanship Award to qualify for Worlds last year, and there was controversy this year of removing 15 slots that were still open, but not actually there. We’ll just have to play a game of wait and see.
I believe this was discussed before - online challenge winners does not impact invites from robot skills list for the state/region. So if team 1234Z wins a spot to Worlds with online challenge and is next in line for the skills spot invite, team 1234Z would ALSO get an invite from the skills list. It effectively does not impact the total spots the state/region gives out.
