Worlds Megathread

Megathread for worlds

Talk here about anything related to worlds

I’m excited to see everyone at worlds and best of luck to all of you!

Does anyone know how the booth at worlds is set up?

This is a nice video from VEX:

The pits are in numerical order. Each pit has a sign that has a letter on the edge showing their division.
Here’s last year’s map: http://content.vexrobotics.com/docs/VW/20150407-VEXworlds-SiteMap.pdf
It’ll probably change a bit, but I would guess the overall idea will stay the same. The red things are main walkways (red carpet).

Thanks.

From another thread

10 members per team, is that including mentors and students?
How many team student members are on an average VRC team at Worlds?
Is it pretty common for teams to add students from sister teams to a team headed to Worlds?

We field 6 robots throughout the season. However, we do not think of ourselves as 6 separate teams, but rather as one large team that fields 6 robots. Each robot does have a group of 3 or 4 that work primarily on that robot, however by the end of the season just about everyone in the club has had input on or worked on every robot. We have had competitions where the main drivers/coaches were unable to attend and others have just stepped in. When we qualify for the US Open or Worlds, we open it up to whomever would like to attend. It doesn’t matter if they were the primary persons involved with the qualifying robot or not. I don’t know how common that is, but it is the way we have done it for years.

Ya I made up a number. I just used it because it was round. I would say average number of members for teams in the finals at the world championship is maybe 2 or 3. Then maybe a coach and a couple parents still falls far short of the 10 member I made up.

In 2915, we had 3 teams this season competing, with around 4-5 members in each team. However, only two teams qualified for worlds and since pretty much everyone in the 3 teams was keen to go to worlds, we redistributed the members from the third team into the other two teams.

Therefore, we now have around 6 people in 2915A and 2915C at worlds, not including parents/teachers/mentors

That said, I still believe that even 6 might be too many for an average team though, especially since you only get 3 drive team members. Off the field, we have 2 robot maintainers, 1 programmer and 1 scout.
Fitting all 12 people between our two pits will get a little cramped, I think.

Here at 1320 we have 5 teams with on average 6 people but then theirs my team the freshmen team that has 9 people which is better than the 12 we started with

At 1575, we have 9 teams made up of around 7 people a team. Luckily we get a lot of funding so we get to bring just about everyone with us to worlds because it is in Kentucky now. We qualified four teams to the World championship and the members of teams that didn’t qualify usually help other teams.

I went to worlds last year with my team. This year we are wanting to bring a field with a hinged two by four perimeter. We are hoping we will be able to combine a few pits to make room for this practice field.
Does anybody remember how big a single pit at worlds is. How about Us open?
We are hoping we can make this work.

Good luck to all teams!

@Cyber brains and @spartanshl

The FAQ file on the VEX World’s site gives a good description of the pit dimensions and setup.

Description: “VRC and VEX IQ teams will be provided with a pit measuring 10’ x 10’ that will have a 6’ x 24” table (30” h), 2 chairs, electricity, a trash can and a team sign. The pit will have an 8-foot tall drape behind it and a 3-foot drape along the side. The VEX U pits will be 15’ x 10’ to accommodate for the two robots per university team.”

Someone might have to correct me, but I think the pits are 10’x10’.

Edit: @JasonG beat me to it :stuck_out_tongue:

Q: What will be present in each team’s pit?
A: VRC and VEX IQ teams will be provided with a pit measuring 10’ x 10’ that will have

have an 8-foot tall drape behind it and a 3-foot drape along the side. The VEX U pits will

Thank you.
Hmmm… Maybe we could ask the teams on either side to shrink their pit by 2 feet too accommodate the field and let them use the field whenever they want.
Although, I’m not sure where we would put our stuff. :S

Last year, some teams on the end of the rows would just put their field on the end. But yeah if I was the backing onto you guys, I’d totally go for having a practice field within reach.

How will the pits be set up? Is it chronological within each division or is it just plain chronological?

@PuppetMaster_Boopington Last year the teams were organized numerically in rows. These rows were spread throughout the convention center. Middle school and VEXU are in separate areas.
