<G18> All rules in this manual are subject to changes, and not considered official until August 17th, 2017. We do not expect any major changes to take place, however we do reserve the right to make game changes until August 17th, 2017. There will also be scheduled manual updates on June 15th, 2017 and April 5th, 2018.
a. The Game Design Committee reserves the right to make changes to this manual in the April 5th, 2018 release specifically for the VEX Robotics World Championship.
I have an outside the box suggestion for a rules change specifically for worlds. Allow de-scoring cones, but only allow de-scoring 1 cone at a time. If more than one cone is de-scored at a time, the penalty is the same as it is now for de-scoring. This would add a very new dimension to the game. Teams would have to be very careful with de-scoring and teams would also have to be protective of their stacks. It would even be cool to restrict de-scoring to stacks not in the 10 or 20 point zones. This would make for some complex strategy decisions as to when stacks get placed in these zones.
I don’t think they should change any rules; especially not that late in the season. However, I wonder if they might add game objects to the field. That could add an interesting new dynamic to the game.
I also forsee more mobile goals being interesting. Right now, most people can manage to get them all in during tournament without having to sweat not getting stacks. However, more mg’s would force them to push their drive a lot more.
That match probably isn’t the best example. However, those middle schoolers from Tuduo could have wiped the field if they hadn’t opted to empty some cones onto the stationary, there were only about a dozen cones left.
Point is these guys are still in the early development of their robots and are clearing over half the field. by April the flied will be close to cleared.
I don’t think they need to add a ton of stuff. But two more mg’s for each side and about 20 more cones might be necessary to keep the field at the level it needs to be for worlds.
Likely true. I bet they would stick 6 more driver loads for each side and 14 more cones in the center of the field, along with one or two more mg’s for each side that are surrounded all the way around by cones, forcing the bot to eat up the cones to get to them.
