Teams who have ran 4 motor 333 rpm drive what was your experience?
My team ran this during spin up, we are in eighth grade and did not have good experience with geared drives. It should work with only four motors but might overheat fast. Our team had only four Omni wheels with one motor for each and it didn’t overheat. However I don’t suggest you do this.
How quickly would estimate it overheated?
How many times are you going to ask about motor drives and gearings, basically anything works as long as your not overworking your motors so yes this is a good ratio for that.
Don’t remember sorry
My team ran this for 2 tournaments last year, and got pushed around a lot in addition to overheating. It works alright, but I wouldn’t recommend it unless you don’t have many other options.
this is the same speed as 360, and from my testing works very well, we had 2 of our sister teams running it and their overheat times were only slighty different to our pre states 4m 360 bots, i would say its a appropriate speed for 4m drives
Ok thanks! But I was already planning to run 360 rpm on 4 blue motors so if you any experience for that can you pls tell me?
it worked extremly well and the only difference i noticed between it and 6m 360 was a faster acceleration and burnout time being increased
We tested a similar system with 4 motor, blue gearboxes, and around 333 rpms spin up year. After driving it around for a bit, we decided it wasn’t strong enough and overheated too often for our liking. About every 3-4 minutes we had to let it cool. Could’ve been poor build quality, but we now generally use 6 motors in the drivetrain. Is there a specific reason you want 4 motors?
Yes, we don’t have access to pneumatics and my teacher wants us to be able to score on wall stakes so we have 2 motor conveyor system 1 motor mogo 4 motor drive and 1 motor wall stake scoring method
In that case, I would recommend 360 rpms on 3.25 inch wheels. This will put you just above 60 in/sec, which is a little high, but not too bad. I’d also consider putting at least 6 wheels (maybe 8?) on your drivetrain to add some traction. This configuration was the one that felt best for my team back when we were testing 4 motor drives. Just know that its on the faster side and has less torque, especially with 4 motors.
360 and 333 are the same, the difference is next to non existant
All I know is it worked better for us. Again, could’ve been bad build quality.
360 rpm on 3.25 = 61.3 in/sec
333 rpm on 3.25 = 56.7 in/sec
difference is 4.7 in/sec
(credit to 9motorgang for speeds)
4.7 in/sec in speed difference is a definitely something
overheat always goes back to how heavy your robot is and how well tuned is your dt friction
it will probably work. if u want to be really sure run 257 4inch its a little slower but should make it a bit more reliable. if possible do 6 motor drive tho. 6 motor drive is insanley better than 4 motor drive.
Should I do 4 wheels or 3 wheels? we are using 3.25 in omnis
Might as well use 3 over 4 because you save on weight and the motors will have less friction because of less gears. However 4 wheels will give you more traction.
up to you. more omnis = less sink into mat = less strain on motors but its also means more space which means bigger robot and more weight.
