Hi so we’re a new rookie team and I was just wondering what is the best drivetrain for 4 motors? Our team currently to all the gears except for those like 48 tooth gears or 24 tooth metal gears. I’m just wondering if a 1:6 gear ratio good for drive? If not, what’s the best drive train that balances out speed and torque with only using 4 motors. Once again, we are a new team so we don’t really know how to work with 2 left over motors and pneumatics.

Anyways, shoot for a speed around 50-55 in/sec. You’ll be slow, and yu’ll be pushed around a bit, but you’ll be competitive.
I highly recommend doing a 6 motor drive. Unless you’re shooting for a high skills score (in that case make your robot faster), you can have a 6 motor drive, 11w intake, and an 11w flywheel. Or you can do a 77w drive and an 11w intake and make a de-scoring bot like hailstorm (first year I’ve seen a really successful 8 motor pushbot)
I woulf recommend getting your feet wet by building some vertical wings.

use blue motors and run a 360rpm ratio(36:60) on 3.25 omni wheels, its a fast, strong, and very competitive ratio and you are still able to use your other motors for a 1m flywheel and 1m intake with whatever wings/ hang you choose
From a seventh-grade team who has used both 4-motor and 6-motor drive this season, I truly recommend the 6-motor drive. A 5:3 ratio gives you 360 rpm, which gives good speed, torque, and leaves motors for an intake, flywheel/kicker, or even motorized wings if you want those. Our 4-motor drive bot currently has a 3:5 ratio, and that gets 300 rpm, but that’s with green motors and is kinda slow. Go with a 6 blue motor, 5:3 ratio on 3.25 inch wheels.
sorry to stomp on the points you made but they stated they only had 6m total, and you do not need the 6 motors on a 360rpm drive, as it should run fine with 4 motors, we average around 14 minutes of driving before I notice any difference in torque, and it usually correlates to our battery charge, and we run 4 motors on a 14-pound robot
It’s not really fast tho 
We run 450 2.75 and as the driver, I honestly think it is still really slow and I’m aiming that we bump it up to 480 3.25.
