I was just wondering what people thoughts on how one would gear a 8 Motor drivetrain to fit under the net for over under. Of course it is easy to gear it but what gear ratio would yall recommend?
A decent gear ratio would be 3:7, and would probably be good for both a speed and torque based drive train, depending on which one you want. It’s pretty good, and decently fast.
Run 450 imo. Very fast, which is good for 8m drive, and pretty easy gearing.
I’d do 480 3.25 (48/60) on 600 RPM motor
s
We are using smaller diameter wheels so it will travel faster, gears wont fit but i get the ratio
Direct drive is alright but has more issues, also they are using chains which absolutely suck, im thinking around 400, I might end up gearing it using 24:48 or whatever that tooth gear is with a green motor casing and just gear it up. We are using smaller diameter wheels so anything over 400 seems very unnecessary
Uhhhh, that’s not how it works.
The smaller the wheel diameter, the slower you will be (less inches traveled per rotation). If ypu’re using 2.75 in wheels,
(I would recommend something around 60 in/sec)
It will be slower but the acceleration will be higher which is what we are looking for in vex because the field is so small. I realize that I didn’t specify that it was acceleration
60” per second is awful, most teams are running at least 64. To play good defense you need to be fast enough to keep up with other bots, and at 8m you have way more than enough torque to go faster. For defense, 450 on 3.25s I think is the best all around ratio, just will give you less space so mounting brain and battery needs to be creative.
I mean there is always 480 on 3.25
60 tooth gears fit fine on 2.75 inch wheels
That is the only gear that we do not have, for now until we get more gears in I will be using around 360, (I cant remember what it is exactly). I did the conversation and it should be about the same acceleration as a 400-500 rpm with larger diameter wheels. (honestly just guessing bec I forgot exactly what it was)
