The rulestipulates that only one scoring item can be held. If I intentionally place the scoring item on the opponent’s machine for them to hold (but I only place the quantity that will not directly exceed the holding limit, for example, if the opponent does not currently hold any scoring items and I place a pin and cup on the opponent’s machine), does it violateif the opponent picks up and holds the scoring item again? Or is it our violation of ‘not forcing the other party to commit a foul’?

Personally, I would think that this gets your team a GG16 violation because your team intends to get the other team a penalty. So, even though you are not directly causing them to immediately get a penalty, since your intention is to penalize them, I don’t think this would be considered legal.

SG6 states that “possession is limited to one (1) cup or one (1) pin, or a stack of one (1) pin and one (1) cup”. Possession is later defined in the GM and through other VF interpretations as “what you are actively manipulating through a robot mechanism”. Like, say, if I were to pick up a cone/pin stack with my bot, my bot would be possessing that stack. Not sure if that applies to plowing, but that’s outside the scope of your question so I won’t waste time.
If you place a scoring object into their robot, I would think it wouldn’t be considered possession by their robot, since they are not manipulating that object with a proper robot mechanism. Therefore, if they pick up something else while the stack you placed remains in the robot, I don’t think it would be an SG6 violation. But always check the Q&A!
As @Seth_G mentioned though: the mere attempt of this would likely end in a GG16 violation, as you’re attempting to get the other alliance to violate SG6 voluntarily. So don’t do that.
