Air Tank Doesn’t Hold Air

I just started using my V5 Pneumatics kit, and I got everything hooked up properly, but for whatever reason, my air tank won’t hold air. This happens when I release the tail on the compressor. What causes this problem, and how can I fix it?

We had this problem as well. Our issue was the loosening of the schrader valve on the pneumatic reservoir. Looking up how to fix leaky schrader valves on YouTube helped us.

If its a shrader valve issue (as in if your shredder valve is directly put into your tank) then I would try watch this video from 44252 A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omSeCI-oG1g. Basically what the do is they put two male fittings onto the tank, attach a shut off valve, and an airflow valve with your shrader valve attached to the airflow valve.

That’s a workaround, not a fix.

Put some soapy water on the valve and see where the bubbles come from to find the leak(s).

If from the threads… remove valve, apply 1 round of teflon tape, reassemble gently until leaking stops. If needed, apply 2 rounds tape, but do NOT overtighten in ANY case.

If from ‘inside’ the valve. Get one of these from autozone/walmart/etc.

Remove the core, check for contaminants/dirt/etc. Reassemble gently until leaking stops.

If NEITHER works… call vex or get some help from adult w/ EXPERIENCE in air fittings/plumbing/etc.

I think that the problem is that the tail presses the air release in the valve. I could fill it up without putting the compressor tail completely on, just enough for it to work. The other solution did work though.

then it wouldn’t be an air tank. :rimshot:. Thank you, thank you, I’ll be here all night.

It’s supposed to press in the center of the valve. If you had to generate enough air pressure to push that part down w/o touching it… you’de never be able to air up low pressure devices.

Removal of the air chuck (I assume that’s what you are calling the “tail”) has to be quick.
