Answered: Competition - Autonomous Robot

Could you help to clarify some rules for autonomous VEX IQ robot?

  1. When starting does the robot need to start in the staring box?
  2. After the start, if you have to pick up your robot do you bring it back to the same starting block you started in or can you start on any wall or can you go to the other starting block?
  3. Do the kids stand where they start all matches, on the sides by the poles? If they have to retrieve their robot, do they go back to that same area by the poles?

Thank you for your help as we are figuring out the process.

  1. When starting does the robot need to start in the staring box?

Unless otherwise specified, all standard rules apply in Robot Skills Challenge Matches. So, the starting conditions specified by G3 still apply in Programming Skills Challenge matches.

  1. After the start, if you have to pick up your robot do you bring it back to the same starting block you started in or can you start on any wall or can you go to the other starting block?

Let’s take a look at <PSC1>, quoted here for reference with a portion bolded for emphasis:

<PSC1> A team may handle their Robot as many times as desired during a Programming Skills Match.

a. Upon handling the Robot, it must be immediately brought back to a legal starting position. Drivers are allowed to reset or adjust the Robot.

b. If the Robot is possessing any Rings when the Robot is being handled, these Rings will be removed from the playing field and can no longer be used

c. If there are any Rings in the Robot Starting Position where the Robot is being placed, these Rings will be removed from the playing field and can no longer be used.

The Robot must be brought back to any legal starting position. It does not have to be the same starting position that they started the match in.

  1. Do the kids stand where they start all matches, on the sides by the poles? If they have to retrieve their robot, do they go back to that same area by the poles?

Yes, to both of these questions.
