Answered: Lifting Opposing Mobile Goals <SG6>

I have a few questions about SG6 that I have not been able to find answers to on the forum except for outdated posts going back to May.

  1. Is it legal to pick up an opposing mobile goal if I were able to somehow lift it without “grasping” onto it? An example would be lifting it up with a sort of spatula only from the bottom. This was actually an example given by a head referee at the drivers meeting in one of my past tournaments, but I would just like to get formal confirmation that it is legal.

  2. Would it be within the confines of the rules to encase an opposing mobile goal in a circle that is slightly bigger than the circumference of the mobile goal or would this be considered “grasping”? By definition, a circle inside a circle can only ever contact one point at a time so to me this would be legal, but again I just wanted an official response.

  3. Assuming question’s 1 and 2 are legal, would it be legal to lift the mobile goal as defined in question 1 as well as encase the mobile goal as defined in question 2?

I have attached some quickly sketched images of the scenarios I am trying to describe
Additionally, when asking the head ref at the tournament about these questions, he said that it would be legal assuming the mobile goal could be removed, but I wasn’t able to find this in the rules or on the forum.

All Q&A posts, regardless of age, should be considered official and binding. If there are ever updates or edits, we will try to revise them in the posts themselves, to avoid confusion. This is one of the purposes of the Q&A Summary document - to make sure that precedent-setting posts from earlier in the season are not lost in the noise. With that in mind…
