Answered: Motor Hookup and external speed controls

I understand how to hook up the large motors in port 1 and 10 under motors on the cortex. I have another small motor I am using for the arm. What port do I hook it up to on the cortex and use it? Also the external speed controls, how do those work in getting more speed?

**VEX 2-Wire Motors can be connected directly to the CORTEX Motor Ports 1 and 10 because there are internal speed controllers for those 2 ports only inside the CORTEX. You can NOT directly connect a VEX 2-Wire Motor to Motor Ports 2 through 9 on the CORTEX because there are no internal speed controllers on those ports inside the CORTEX.

You must use a VEX Motor Controller 29 when trying to control a VEX 2-Wire Motor from Motor Ports 2 through 9. The VEX Motor Controller 29 gives you speed control from Full Forward to Full Reverse.

VEX 3-Wire Motors can be connected directly to the CORTEX Motor Ports 2 through 9 because there are internal speed controllers inside the VEX 3-Wire Motors.**

Thank you so much. So what are the analog and digital ports for?

The Digital Ports can be used for things like Sensors and LEDs.

Okay I have my large motors in port 1 and 10 like you said for the wheels… For the small motor I connect like you said w/ motorcontrol 29 and put it in port 5 (maybe 6). Now in the program I watched to learn how to program showed me 2 motor tank mode. I have the wheels programmed great. I need to know what to drag and drop to program just a small motor for arm movement. Is it joystick to analog or joy stick to motor and limit? I can not remember how. Please help. Thank you so much.

Unfortunately we can not answer specific programming questions. I suggest you post your question under the appropriate “Other Technical Support” section or under the “Community” where the VEX Users can help you.
