Heres our reveal for Great Planes 2026! This robot was a challenge to get working, but now that it is, I really hope we can do well.
Its premier feature is autostacking. With just 1 button press, the robot automatically adjusts to stack at any height, and any configuration of pin/cup in the claw, wether its a pin, a cup, or both at the same time.
This robot was originally built for color sort, but we did not have time to finish tuning it to competitive levels. Ideally it will be done by Louisville Slugger, our next signature event. The hardware works for color sort, but the software/sensing is surprisingly challenging.
I would be happy to answer any questions of anybody had any.
That’s very interesting. My question is though, how does the autostacking work? How can it tell the height of a stack and adjust itself? It seems like a very useful feature, but I was wondering how it would be carried out.
If I had to guess, they use a distance sensor a little below the claw and detect whether or not the stack goes that high. Once the sensor sees no stack, it knows where the top is and can perform the rest as a sequence.
Cool robot, I am wondering what kind of claw you use? It looks like Banshee? And what was your reason to use 4 plastic pieces there instead of the standard single plastic cutout?
