It is our school’s first time in the competition so we are keeping our build simple and sticking to the standard Axel Hero bot configuration. However, the chain in the pusher on the arm is breaking frequently - it seems to happen at the place where it is screwed into the metal pusher. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to work around this, as, if it happened in the competition, it would be very cumbersome to fix it. Thanks
If that’s the issue, check what motor you’re using for it, the Axel bot we have doesn’t break that chain, and we’re using a red motor, double check your chain for weak points as well.
If it’s the flaps at the end of the arm breaking, that’s just a major design flaw.
Is the chain link itself breaking (like breaking in half) or the chains disconnect? (A picture of the broken link would be nice)
I assume its the former, so I would recommend not tightening the screw down as much. Since it’s breaking where you screwed it in, that’s probably a sign of over-tightening, which will break chains pretty easily. Tighten it until you can still shift it around, but with a medium amount of friction.
We are using the default green motor so that is certainly something I can change tomorrow. It is twice the rpm of the red. Also, you are correct - it is the C channel, as you have marked in yellow. Thanks very much for the response.
The chain disconnects - it doesn’t break. Yes the screw is very tight, so that is definitely not helping then. We will have a look at that tomorrow when I’m back at school. Thanks so much.
Also just a heads up we had to change out arm to a red motor due to the fact it would not pick up 2 rings but it was extremely slow if your green motor on the arm mech is able to pick up two rings or one you should still be good
So I talk from experience with the hero bot. First off the axel bot chain was very cumbersome when the chain broke and mine broke during our comp. So it wasn’t working you don’t want to make your chain to tight or too loose the mechanism is a bit confusing. If you’re talking about the pusher don’t screw it in too tight as it will end up making the chaining breaking off more. Also hope you guys like vex
We changed the chain and loosened the screw and that seems to have done it. Thanks very much. I am curious about how to pick up 2 rings at a time with Axel robot. We would love to know how to do this but any videos online only show this with more advanced builds than Axel. We are also curious to know exactly how changing the arm motor from green 200 rpm to red 100 rpm helps. It obviously slows the motion for lifting the arm but I’m not sure I understand why this is an advantage. More precise control maybe?
I think you guys should be okay with a green motor. The next thing I do recommend is making a new OR customizing your drivetrain. I have just recently just went to the Kalahari classic yesterday and saw a lot of amazing robots. I saw an arm bot (hero bot) with a custom drivetrain with small wheels.
!!!You want to have a 4 motor driven train just to be faster and stronger.!!!
Thanks very much. Again, as it’s our first time in the competition, it’s often the little things that trip us up. For example, I have read the whole game manual and watched the official video but I can’t find one reference to what the rules are for picking up rings from the other alliance. For example, if you are the red alliance, are you allowed to pick up blue rings in particular circumstances? I may have missed it, but I can’t find it anywhere in the game manual. Thanks again. Sean
It’s amazing that you read the whole game manual and watched the video so that’s great
Yes you may pick up blue rings, if so you do it’s ok but if you pick them up and put them in a negative corner that may be good as well
These are rules you DO need to know
In the last 15 seconds of a match any goals in a positive or negative corner is protected if you do remove them from the corner in the last 15 seconds you will be dequeued
You may NOT touch two goals at the same time if you have one goal and try to move another one while still holding goal number one the that will result in a dequeue.
Make sure your robot only expands one way vertically (I think) and fits inside size limits don’t worry about this one too much THOGH just make sure you are in size
