A powerful hammer? Yes. A powerful weapon in Battlebots? No it barely even dents robots and only makes noises.
That robot has excellent defensive capabilities but it barely damages other robots and being very low to the ground makes maneuvering difficult.

I’m planning on attending the CIRC Bot Brawl and their rules are pretty basic. Generally, your robot should:

  • be within the size limit (in my case 1ft x 1ft)
  • any sharp edges should have covers
  • moving weapons need safety locks
  • robot should have an easily accessible power switch/connector link
  • power source must be electric
  • robots with weapons should have a working fail-safe function
  • must be able to demonstrate controlled mobility
  • have no hazardous materials

They did some good damage in their last fight. The crushed their opponents weapon bearing and bent their opponents armor down into their motor (which later caught on fire because of it).

When their win percentage in 2019 is 50%, when their team has been competing for 11 years, it shows the possibility that they should reconsider their primary weapon design.

It did damage. They made big upgrades to the weapon system since last year and even last year they showed that they were able to do substantial damage.

Thanks. Those are mostly what I had in the SPARC rules, but those included some weird things, like no passive wedges.

Bloodsport is not a FBS, that’d be someone more like Gigabyte or Captain Shrederator (or Shellshock :cry:) … I think the best classification I’ve seen for that type of weapon is overhead spinner

If im reading this right, and you’re insinuating they should change their weapon to something more traditional (and more effective) like a spinner, then I think you underestimate how hard it is to get into BattleBots… their hammer is a big part of their aesthetic is one of the key reasons why they’re as adored as they are. It’s a tv show after all- and it wouldn’t be very entertaining if all you have is a million biteforces or a million tombstones, even if those particular spinner designs are objectively more effective at transferring energy. You’ve gotta have your shatters, your ducks and your rustys, too. Besides, compared to a good amount of spinners on the show, shatter is actually very impressive in how much damage it can put out, even though it’s using an inefficient weapon like a hammer- and that’s a result of some brilliant engineering from team Bots FC

Oops lol. I got confused. I was up the night before designing a full body spinner hoping I’d learn to like it eventually. I stopped paying attention to it after the self righting pole.

Hey guys, just a quick question: have any one if you tried 3d printing the shell for a 1lb battlebot? Due to the fact that I have a 3d printer and am also a cheapskate, that is what I would like to do. Any if you who have tried it, how did it go?
P.S. @jacko, I just saw your match against Tombstine. No spoilers, but that was an incredible match. Good job!

I’m currently working on my 1lb antweight. There’s a pretty good guide rn on instructables. The .stl got pulled off of thingiverse but I downloaded it before. It was for a UK antweight but it weighed 300 grams so they thought it was ruined. I’m working on modifying it in fusion rn because it was a fairly good chassis.

Also, most print in Taulman Bridge or NylonX for actual combat antweights. I’m working on a custom urethane dip that could allow PLA to be used.

Okay. I saw a guide from AZrobotics or something similar, and it mentioned NylonX. It also said ABS over PLA, because it is stronger, if slightly more brittle.

What kind of 3D printer do you have. I am currently working on a beetleweight and have a Ender 3 Pro. Been upgrading it to be able to print Nylon and Polycarbonate filament. Honestly it doesn’t take much funding or work to upgrade the Ender 3 tp this point. Glass bed, all metal hot end, and an enclosure would do the trick, would also recommend a direct feed if you would want to print more rubbery materials such as TPU.
I would highly recommend staying away from PLA and ABS for any sort of item that will take heavy abuse.

This seems interesting, do you think it would work in a slightly heavier weight class? I’m inclined to say no, but my knowledge of anything such as this is limited.

I have a Monoprice mp3. Its basically a clone of the wanhao i3. We do have an enclosure.
We are also considering adding standoffs on the the inside if we have extra weight as cross bracing. We are also considering side wedges like this:


Basically, we are trying to take as much stress off the plastic as possible, and considering a design ti make it easily replaceable.

Really love the wedges on the sides, your build looks clean and sharp, definitely a good looking bot.
I think you can get a all metal hot end for some Monoprice models, but I am not familiar with the MP3.
While the extra structure support would help, it won’t solve the problem. You can’t let a weapon puncture that shell, when that happens all sort of nasty things happen to the internals of the bot.
You could maybe make it work, but I highly recommend staying clear from PLA or ABS. I do Love your design though. Looks really good.

Its not ours, but we are considering a design like it, for the wedges to protect the plastic and act as a secondary weapon.

I have an ender 5 pro, and it might shatter under the coating but it would be held in place.
