Best CAD

Hi! I was wondering what the best v5 cad is? Thank you!

I don’t think the CAD you use really matters that much. Just chose one (Onshape, Solidworks, Inventor, Fusion, Solid Edge, (Protobot, Protobot Rebuilt)). They’re good enough.

Only other CAD for V5RC I know of is Protobot Rebuilt.

Best CAD for Chromebook/Browser: Onshape (generally said to be better than Protobot and Protobot Rebuilt)
Blender isn’t really a dedicated CAD software
TinkerCAD is more for 3D printing

I would recommend Onshape personally. It isn’t quite as powerful as others like Fusion360 or Solidworks, but I find it to be a little bit more intuitive than other CAD software I’ve used (Protobot, Inventor, & Fusion360). Additionally, the cloud-based nature of Onshape makes it easier to use on a wider variety of computers/tablets. The only complaint I have using Onshape is the lack of a mirroring function. It can be done using some workarounds, but it’s not easy.

If you do decide to go with Onshape, I recommend this tutorial series by Jerry Palardy:

I haven’t used it for vex, but I have used onshape for my first tech challenge robot. it’s free and is web-based, so you can access it from any computer, and you should just be able to find a vex v5 parts library. the only problem with it is that it can become slow and laggy with big assemblies.
