Okay, breaking away from memes, copying robot designs you saw on the internet is blatantly against what vex wants you to do. Taking the idea and expanding on it is great, like making Ben Lipper’s robot shoot 3 balls instead of 2, but just copying it is a different story. People usually post their robots on Youtube so they can have a moment to show off, not so you can steal their work. That’s why most reveals come 2 weeks before worlds.
Kind of reminds me of what happened in 2010 with the Cheesy Poofs. Their editor had left a pretty good photo of 254A’s robot on their website for long enough for teams from both China and Puerto Rico to (screw-for-screw) holecount it.
Honestly kind of sad that teams think its ok to circumvent the engineering design process by copying another team’s design. Getting inspiration from them is ok, as long as you cite the proper sources in your notebook, but outright copying them is not ok (especially as VRC is a student-centered program).
