My team is trying to start using Odom this year and I didn’t know if I built it correctly. This is my first time building one. It is ment to be used for turning.
Yeah that should work, I would look into using a screw joint, though, to minimize slop.
well overall the bq isn’t terrible, but I would say sanwhich it between two c channels if you can for more stability on the axle for less friction
I was questioning that because I kept seeing on YouTube people kept using shafts and screw joints and I didn’t know what to do. Also should I screw joint it tight or loose so it can spin freely. I’m not super informed on the details of screw jointing it.
How exactly should I sandwich it? Like the wheels or the whole thing?
You use the bronze circle inserts to transfer motion since the screws are round. Because it’s being screwed into the rotating part of the sensor, you can actually tighten it a reasonable amount, just be careful not to damage the sensor.
You should have it tight enough that it doesn’t experimented perpendicular movement, but loose enough it can still pivot freely with the rubber band tension. The cantilever is trinity firm, but you could look into surrounding the pod.
Any reason you choose a horizontal wheel over a vertical wheel? Tracking drift is important hut then you need to make sure your driven wheels don’t slip or that will be a bigger issue.
What’s the difference between X axis Odom pod and a Y axis one. I know that they track different things but which one tracks your Turing the best. We are trying to take it easy our first try on coding’s Odom. Our plan was to uses Odom for Turing then a inertial for driving straight.
Whenever your building, you want the axle to go through 2 holes, on opposite sides of the spinning part experiencing force, as otherwise it’s really unstable. I would do that by basically getting another c channel and offsetting it with standoffs by like and inch or two depending on your design, and running the axle through, as otherwise you’ll experience way too much friction, ruining your accuracy
The best way to track turning is with an inertial sensor.
What inserts are in the wheels? I can’t tell if it’s correct without knowing how that’s set up.
The first picture which is what it is at the moment are just square inserts. The picture of what it was are free spinning inserts.
What would be suggested to track? (Using the odometer I have right now or the one on the x axis going with the wheels on the drivetrain?)

The sensor needs to be linked to the wheels or it won’t register movement. Take a look at this topic
I just have one last question if y’all don’t mind. If I use a free spinning insert to screw joint the wheel how would the sensor detect the wheel moving if it’s free spinning?
The way these inserts are set up is to make them all move at once. because of the length of the bronze inserts, the can be placed halfway between the wheel and the sensor, making it drive both. This pattern of halfway inserts is used through the entire screw as you can see in the video linked before.
I meann- I’d use a screuwu joint to avoid wobble, but otherwise it looks aight ;D
The odom pod looks very nice. However, if you want to use it for turning, I would say use an inertial sensor. Horizontal pods are usually there to account for drift(which you should have a lot of bc you’re running all omnis)
