Respectfully I do not believe this is an amazing game produced by vex, I may be biased because of mix and match but In my opinion games like this that require so much careful precision aren’t all that fun and the stress takes over from the fun of the game, and unlike games like robofest bottle sumo there definitely will be a meta and the game will become a game of who can build the best meta bot. All the bots become the same and nothing stands out and it’s a very stressful game, not fun in my opinion, but let me know what y’all think
Everybody has a negative opinion on the game and they have not played it yet.
I think the game is great. The GDC is trying a lot of new things. A lot of people don’t like change. It’s no surprise people don’t like it
Honestly I have been in Vex since tipping point and override will be my last one and I really like the idea of it. Mainly the vertical expansion limit of 50 in is just a fun thing for me. I had wanted to make a robot that could expand a lot and this is the game I get to do that.
Still not fully decided on that 55W drivetrain limit, but honestly, I don’t think that I could have asked for a more fun game for my senior game. Also I get to build and program a DR4B and maybe an articulated wrist!!!
Yeah I’ve just been seeing a lot of negative comments on it
So you let others influence your mindset?
This is exactly my stance on the new game. People need to see past the restrictive aspect of the drivetrain wattage limit and recognize that it is there to encourage increased complexity in scoring mechanisms. In my opinion, this game will make the competing robots cooler, because I find a robot that is slower but equipped with more complex tools more interesting than a faster but less-equipped one.
No not at all I personally believe there could have been a more fun game, but I’ve also been seeing a lot of people agree with that, so I wanted y’alls opinions
I agree with your stance on that limit, but I still kinda think that limiting was the wrong move. As we can see already with the ideas people are having, this game REQUIRES motors to be allocated elsewhere. That means that people would have made the decision on their own anyway. If that is true, why should we force them to do it anyway? What if some team still wants their 66W chassis? Forcing reallocation is not the way to go. Making a game that encourages it is. I like how VEX was thinking, but it really isn’t necessary for this game.
The drivetrain wattage limit will probably end up being like the plastic limit for this year. People won’t like it and then they will get used to it.
The issue with passively forcing teams to use more motors outside of their drivetrains is that such a game increases the learning curve and effective skill gap between new and experienced teams. I believe the intent of each game is to still let new teams be able to reach scoring options, rather than putting most scoring locations out of their reach. Forcing motor re-allocation with the wattage restriction avoids this issue, where a team with a clawbot, for example, would feel useless and discouraged.
I like the 55W limit I love the vertical expansion, but my gosh I hate the game elements. I really want to do a launching game and I feel like the scoring is very over complicated. Sucks that it’s my last game Bc I’m not very excited.
I LOVE IT.
The GCD could strike a balance where you have to start with a 55w drivetrain, it would require teams to have a design restriction, but allow better teams to be able to make pto’s to later add more power to the drive. I find it especially confusing since they added King of the Hill to the game. If teams can find a way to redirect power from a main lift, I think they should be allowed to do it.
can wait for the upset when the game manual comes out.
I love this idea. Allowing PTOs to not count towards the 55W limit would result in even more complicated robots for better teams with more power which would still keep this game building focused which I believe is the goal for this game.
Now that the manual is up, whats everyone thinking? I think no descoring is great for offensive play. Hopefully they add a protection period for the toggles if its needed.
It definitely cleared stuff up. Understandably teams are mad that painted parts aren’t allowed.
Otherwise, I think it was a good call to have tipping over stacks be illegal, I just hope accidents aren’t too often.
I think that the GAMEPLAY part of the new game will be quite good. The tower protections mean that the team with the best engineering will succeed, unlike last year, which was primarily reliant on the skill of the driver, and with the toggles and their area of use, zoning will be incredibly important, allowing for complex strategies to develop. I’m not even too upset over the 55W drive limit, as it does create an interesting build challenge, albeit an unnecessary one. However, the bans regarding dyed gears and other cosmetic aspects, as well at the ban of PTO usage is quite dissapointing. While I am a senior and won’t be competing in v5rc next year, it makes me sad to see my younger teammates be dissapointed by the fact that they will not be able to build the robot that they dreamed up for this game, limited by the greed of the GDC. I am increasingly worried that these rules will be here to stay, making all future v5rc games worse and requiring orgs to buy entire new inventories of uncolored parts. Please do better, Vex.
