DR4B Traybot w/ Thin Drivebase, It is possible?

Hi, my team already has a pretty decent Complex Traybot (Though it still has a ton of room for improvement), and I was considering a rebuild to fix a couple of issues. I have also gone back and looked at some threads discussing DR4B Trays.

Do you think a DR4B Tray would be possible to build on a drivebase 26 holes or thinner? (Functionally possible, ignoring the inevitable tipping problems).
I have looked at my drivebase (25 hole) and I think it would be possible to squeeze in a DR4B onto the chassis.

(We probably wouldn’t put the whole tray on the lift, just a small 2-3 cube mini tray that nests into the main one which would still be mounted on the drivebase)

(We recently went to the Minnesota State tournament and a few teams at our school didn’t make it to worlds, so we have plenty of parts to make a new bot, while keeping our current one in case it doesn’t work out.)

We would use the bot as a regular tray most of the time, only raising up to do towers.

The only con I’ve really ever seen to a DR4b Traybot is that you typically have to end up running a 2 motor drive base so when another bot pushes you you’re pretty much at their mercy.

You can do a 1 motor lift, 4 motor drive base, 2 motor intake, and a 1 motor tilter. @Pat.Chet.02 is asking about when the tray is connected to the base, thus you can get away with a 1 motor lift.

They are going to be running a mini tray on the lift though, and depending on how it’s built one motor could easily burn out. It depends on the confidence of your build quality ig.

I’m trying this with a 2 m lift, 2 m intake, 3 m h-drive, and a 1 m tilter. 1 m DR4B would be great but I don’t have the experience to build it.

I got the idea for a mini tray my watching this video (Back Red robot at the start of the match):

After watching the video again, i’m not sure what the exact width is, but the drivebase definitely looks like it’s thin enough.

So it definitely seems possible.
I guess the question now is, can we pull it off?

Yeah, it’s definitely possible. I’ve made a 26 wide lift tray fairly successful.

Here’s a link to a past post where I detailed some tips on building a lift tray: 42700N Summer Reveal - #58 by meepmeepme

I’d be happy to answer questions as best I can about specific challenges if you’re interested.

Sidenote: consider whether it’s really worth doing a lift tray. They’re not quite optimal in my opinion.

It’s definatly possible. I have one sitting on our field. Just make sure the towers that mount it to the base are pretty much flush with the outside of the base and you should be fine.

I tried making one, and while it is possible, there are a lot of collision issues with the lift hitting the tray and etc. Beware

Just try adding anti tips for it.

We have a dr4b traybot, and we needed max width base. Any narrower and the ramp wouldn’t fit and/or the arms would scrape on the mount towers
