DR4B vs Tray Stacker

Not really, bots with long enough trays can seioe cubes or hook them out of towers with special attachments. And cube locks makes tower swapping very fast for traybots as well

But have you seen any bots hooking cubes out of towers? That’s what matters for now. And still with cube locks, swapping fully nested cubes is a challenge for most traybots.

Sorry I’m a bit behind on this. My opinion is that a dr4b traybot can be more effective than a standard traybot. Autonomous bonus at worlds is massively important, and a dr4b traybot can run a much greater large zone auton. If you want to see what I mean, check out the 9 cube auton my team (5509A) posted here on the forums. We have all the capabilities of a standard traybot, plus the ability to intake stacks and towers while lifting multiple cubes, which also means a huge advantage in switching the color of a tower

That’s a good point. Maybe a goofy style bot with a tray DR4B would be a good combo.

Well tray bots have been meat everywhere, but there are some teams such as mine that place a tray at the end of a dr4b, so I think the tray-lift robots will be most dominant if done right

My team and I are building a dr4b and we are having trouble with it lifting the arms, I think its because of a weight problem and the rubber bands aren’t helping any. I found out how to calculate the Nm (Newton meter) into foot pounds and i ended up with 7.7 foot pounds, but its only lifting about 3 in of the base of the robot and won’t lift all the way without help.

How many motors are you guys using? Also, what is the gear ratio on the lift?

We had something quite similar to this in our early season

Instead of that, you could do something similar to my design and mount the entire tray and angler to the lift, this lets you stack on stacks and lift multiple cubes at once

Surprisingly no, because the center of gravity on the robot was quite low and the standoff links we used to make the cascading intake were strong and didn’t allow for much tipping. The picture isn’t quite the final design, so we were a bit sturdier too.

We have since then switched to a complex tray (2 bar lift) because of the height limit the tower design presented us (eight cubes). We ended up winning the Minnesota State Championship with our robot. (the traybot)

yeah i was planning on changing it but i realized that is would take a lot of time to do that to just replace 4 gears

How well did that system work?

no because the stacker’s intakes, like, spit out the cubes, as with a claw, they just drop them down. If they tried to stack on stacks, they either would fail in doing so or knocking down the stack that was originally there.

but if they succeed then thats awesome. but it is a HIGH risk
