Drivetrain Drift Questions

Our chassis has slightly more friction on the right side than the left. When we push the chassis forward, it tends to drift to the left, although there are times where it is able to go straight just fine. We’ve had trouble with spacing because we’ve had to cut our McMaster spacers, so spacing is slightly different.

From past experiences, has having slightly more friction in one side made driving and auton a lot harder, or has it been okay?

Probably will make auton harder, I suggest to ethier:

Find where the friction is

Or

Use inertial/odom to make sure they go the same speed

Seems as if one has more resistance than the other… try lubricating or finding where the problem is by taking stuff out until it works right, and work from there

Make sure that all of your bearing blocks are well mounted with two screws and all c-channels are well aligned. Also consider using screws instead of axles for wheels, if you havent done so already. Search forum for “screw joints” for more tips on that.

Finally, try pulling axles out of the motors and see if everything rotates as freely as possible. And, when you push the axle back into motors there should be no force required to do that, indicating good alignment.
